Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was a night of career firsts for several Lady Tigers as Campbellsville University shut out the University of Pikeville, 10-0, Saturday night in Mid-South Conference women's soccer action.
Pikeville helped get things started and the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers didn't let up.
UPike's Elisa Suya Lopes attempted to clear a pass from Rachel Veatch to Mhairi Fyfe, but placed the ball in the back of the net to give CU a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play. Seven minutes later, Fyfe assisted Veatch on a goal – the first of three scored by CU's offense in the first half.
Fyfe netted her first goal of the night in the 21st minute off an assist by Sam Sandidge, who then scored her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute off a Devon Burnside assist to give CU a 4-0 lead entering halftime.
Senior forward Jessica Ralph opened the second half with her only goal of the night after placing five of her six shots on goal. Her unassisted goal in the 46th minute unleashed a six-goal half for CU, matching an effort from the Lady Tigers' home opener against Union College in which CU scored six times in a half.
Ralph then assisted a pair of goals by Fyfe in the next four minutes, earning Fyfe her first collegiate hat trick. Ralph and Fyfe are now tied as the teams' leading goal scorers with nine each in 2013.
Toria Alsip got in on the action in the 67th minute with an assist from Kathryn Thomas, and the Burnside scored her first collegiate goal in the 68th minute with help from Aris Kuntz. Veatch netted her second goal of the match off another Burnside assist in the 70th minute.
Brandie Hagerman and Brianna Anderson split time in goal to share CU's six shutout of the season and fourth-straight. It's the second straight game for UPike to be held scoreless. Hagerman stopped both UPike shots on goal in her 73 minutes of play.
Pikeville goalkeeper Moreka Buchanan collected 12 saves and allowed nine goals, while Emily Owen took over in the 68th minute and had three saves and one goal allowed.
As a team, Campbellsville collected 29 shots, including 25 on goal.
Campbellsville (7-3-1, 4-1 MSC) will return to action Thursday, Oct. 17 on the road in Owensboro, Ky., at Kentucky Wesleyan College. Start time is 8 p.m. ET at Steele Stadium for the Panthers' Senior Day.
