Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – No. 22 Campbellsville Tigers traveled to Shawnee State University and lost their second game of the year. CU could not capitalize on 20 total shots as they scored only once, losing 2-1

Campbellsville came out firing on all cylinders but could not score until there was seven minutes left in regulation. Ryan Foster scored the loan goal for the Tigers in the 82nd, but it was too little too late. SSU goalkeeper, Thomas Carbonari faulted only once in the game and finished with 11 saves.
"We played a great game," said head coach Adam Preston. "Their defense did well and had some big center backs that were physical and gave us problems. Our finishing wasn't as sharp as it has been, and that was the only down fall on the day."
CU hadn't lost since Sept. 19 when it faced off against Lindsey Wilson, currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA. On that late September night CU also failed to capitalize on opportunities in a close, 1-0 loss.
The Tigers out shot the Bears 20-7 in the loss and 12 of those shots were on mark.
Shawnee State scored its first goal as Joseph Webster received a pass from Martyn Sayer and beat back-up goalkeeper Marcus Anckar to put the Bears up 1-0.
Three-time Mid-South Conference defender of the week, Max Malachiyev did not start because he was feeling under the weather, giving Anckar his first career start.
CU finished the first half leading in every stat category but goals scored. It was only the third time all year the Tigers had been down at the half.
Webster scored Shawnee State's second goal in the 58th minute to put the Tigers behind the eight ball. Malachiyev entered the game after the second goal was scored but it was a little late.
After Foster's goal cut the lead in half, the Tigers continued to apply pressure on the Bears defense, but Carbonari answered the call.
John Kennedy, Chris Moyo, Camilo Roman and Kevon Farquharson all had opportunities in the final six minutes but CU couldn't get them in the net.
"I felt like we were the better team today," said Preston. "But we gave away two easy goals. We need to learn not to let the game come to us and attack early and often."
Campbellsville moves to 12-2-1 on the year and 4-2-1 in the Mid-South Conference. They will end their three game road stint with the second match of a double header at St. Catherine College (2-12, 0-7 MSC) on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
