Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ky. – After dropping their first game in over a month on Saturday, the Campbellsville University Tigers looked to get back on the winning track and it showed as they faced off with St. Catherine College on a beautiful day at Barber Soccer Complex. The Tigers recorded 31 total shots compared to St. Catherine's five en route to a 5-0 victory.
Â
The defense set the tone early as Marcus Anckar started his second straight game in goal for CU and recorded two saves on the only two shots on goal for SCC. Defensemen John Kennedy, Dru Sin, Adam Linderholm and Alex Higdon kept the ball on the CU offensive side of the field for most of the first half and allowed only one shot attempt in the first 45 minutes.
Â
"We have been leaking on defense," said coach Adam Preston. "But our strikers played a major role in helping out the defensemen today."
Â
The Tigers took an early lead with a goal off the foot of freshman Ross Lindsey in the 21st minute. Roraigh Yearwood did a lot of the work as he dribbled through the Patriots defense and set the ball perfectly for Lindsey to kick in.
Â
"We had to remind ourselves how good we really were today, and it showed as we controlled most of the game," Preston said.
Â
Campbellsville extended its first half lead with another goal in the 32nd minute as Ryan Foster received a pass from Yearwood just inside the penalty box. Foster turned quickly to shoot the ball past SCC goalkeeper Brandon Campbell to give the Tigers the 2-0 first half lead.
Â
Coming out of the break, Campbellsville added another goal as Foster doubled his goals total on the year and kicked in his second of the game; now sitting at three goals on the year.
Â
After Campbellsville had the game in the bag, the Tigers kept their offensive attack going as Eurodger Bargblor, Jr. and Kevon Farquharson each added goals to extend the CU lead to 5-0.
Â
Yearwood recorded a career-high three assists and leads the Tigers in that stat category with seven.
Â
"Roraigh has done a great job all year," said Preston. "Teams are starting to mark him more and that is allowing other opportunities for others to step up. But what a great striker does is when he draws attention, he lays the ball to other guys."
Â
The Tigers are currently sitting in fourth place in a strong MSC, behind Lindsey Wilson, Rio Grande and University of the Cumberlands. After Campbellsville lost its game to Shawnee State University on Saturday, it dropped CU out of the NAIA Top 25 Polls. The Tigers are ranked 32nd in the NAIA and received 38 total votes.
Â
Campbellsville will take on University of the Cumberlands in its final regular season matchup Oct. 30, and it will also be senior night for the men's team. Game time is set to start at 8 p.m. ET
