Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – On a cold and windy day full of CU athletic events, Lady Tiger soccer capped off the busy day with a 5-0 win over Bryan College on Senior Night at Finley Stadium.
Campbellsville came up with four second-half goals to prevail over the Lady Bears of Bryan College. Jessica Ralph got it all started in the 7th minute as she received a corner kick from fellow senior Bailey McDonough. Ralph leaped over the defender and headed the ball past Bryan College goalkeeper Stephanie Gagnon, 1-0 CU.
The Lady Tigers struggled the rest of the first half and did not play up to Coach Thom Jones liking.
"We kept dribbling down and shooting near post," said Jones. "I told the girls to mix it up and start shooting far post and it paid off."
And pay off it did. Campbellsville took Jones' half-time comments to heart and came out in the second half with six quick shots in the first seven minutes and eventually Ralph kicked in her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute and her 13th career game with multiple goals scored. Ralph is also the career goals leader for CUWS; she currently sits at 48 goals scored.
Although Campbellsville had a comfortable lead at 2-0, the Lady Tigers were not finished and kept the shots coming.
Devon Burnside got in on the action in the 63rd minute as she kicked in her second goal of her young career.
Exactly four minutes and four seconds later, Mhairi Fyfe added to her goal total for the year and chipped in another CU goal in the 67th minute.
"Once we made the adjustments, the shots kept coming," said Jones. "But we have to be able to capitalize more than five times on 40 shots."
CU outshot Bryan College 20-2 in the second half and 39-4 for the game. Campbellsville also added 23 of those shots on goal while Bryan College only squeezed out two on goal.
With the score 4-0 later in the second half, sophomore Aris Kuntz extended the lead to 5-0 with a goal in the 72nd minute to seal the deal for Campbellsville.
Although CU scored five goals, Bryan College goalkeeper, Gagnon, played great for the Lady Bears. She recorded 18 saves and kept Campbellsville from potentially scoring more.
Lady Tiger goalkeeper, Brandie Hagerman recorded two saves on two shots on goal for BC.
The five seniors recognized tonight were Toria Alsip, Brandie Hagerman, Savanna Stephens, Jessica Ralph and Bailey McDonough. They all have been major contributors to the Lady Tiger soccer program and all will leave with a legacy of helping the 2013 senior class get CUWS back on the map not only in the Mid-South Conference but also the country.
These five seniors have accumulated a 47-29-3 record while at CU and will not only be remembered as a great recruiting class but also a great group of girls Jones has been lucky to coach and mentor.
"It was great to win on their Senior Night," said Jones. "They're a great group of girls and there is no better way than for them to go out with a win. They will truly be missed."
