Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University men's soccer blanked the Patriots of University of the Cumberlands 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 30 for Senior Night at Citizen's Bank Field in Finley Stadium. With this Mid-South Conference win, CU improves to 14-2-1 on the year and 5-2-1 in the MSC to wrap up third place in the conference.

It was a failed Cumberlands penalty kick attempt in the 31st minute of play that gave CU an edge over the Patriots. The Tigers found themselves backed into a corner with 15:23 left to play in the first half when CU sophomore goalkeeper Max Malachiyev blocked a shot taken by Cumberlands' Pedro Antonelli inside the 10-yard box.

Malachiyev dove into the feet of Antonelli, securing the ball as the shot attempt unfolded. But not before a whistle was sounded by the officials. Antonelli's PK attempt missed high, ricocheting off the top crossbar and behind the net. Tiger fans erupted at the missed kick and the intensity of the Campbellsville players was notably raised.

No goal was netted during the first half of play.

Though, CU exited the locker room with intensity still raised. Sophomore forward Roraigh Yearwood footed perhaps one of the closest attempts on-goal of the contest in the 48th minute. Yearwood's attempt hit the right post and rebounded out of play. The game remained scoreless.

Nevertheless, Yearwood saw another opportunity on-goal come his way just a minute later; this time he found the net. Yearwood headed the ball into the back of the net from around 10 yards out, off an assist from senior defender Dru Sin. CU led 1-0.

Campbellsville had another opportunity to score in the 58th minute as well, a trend that was rather reoccurring for the Tigers in the game. Freshman midfielder Ryan Foster found himself one-on-one with the Patriots goalkeeper just outside the 10-yard box. Foster made a move to his left, then to his right and fired towards the net but Cumberlands goalkeeper Joao Souza made a diving effort towards the back post for the save. Score remained 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.

CU barely missed another opportunity to put a point on the board in the 62nd minute of play, this time it was freshman forward Kevon Farquharson who missed wide, hitting the post.

Campbellsville was able to make amends on Farquaharson's close miss just a minute later though. Junior forward Gustav Carlsson found the net off of a Yearwood assist to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage over the Patriots.

Yearwood had another shot hit the post in the 67th minute, this time from around 17 yards out. The trend of close misses continued. Sophomore midfielder Lewis Fyfe missed wide on a header in the 79th minute and CU senior defender and team captain John Kennedy missed high on a header in the 81st minute.

Then with 1:38 left to play in the game CU added its final insurance goal. Senior forward Camilo Roman was able to find the back of the net to give Campbellsville its final goal of the night. CU 3-0.

"Tonight we asked our guys to play at the standard that has been set by our seniors, and they responded to that call," head coach Adam Preston said. "Cumberlands is a good team, but we played extremely well and made the game difficult on them. We are very proud of our guys and what they've accomplished this game and this season."

Five Tiger seniors were honored in the Senior Night ceremonies. John Kennedy, Drew Sin, Aaron Steele, Tomas Arocha and Milo Roman were each individually recognized before the game for their accomplishments and achievements during their time at Campbellsville University.

During the five seniors' time at Campbellsville University, they have been a part of the first team in Campbellsville University Men's Soccer history to be ranked in the NAIA Top 25 (2013, current season). As well as accounting for an overall four-year record of 54-24-4, the best four-year record of the Adam Preston era.

Campbellsville will be back in action on Nov. 9 in the Mid-South Conference quarterfinals. The Tigers will host the No. 6 seed in the tournament, which will be determined Saturday, Nov. 2. The semifinals and finals of the MSC Tournament will be played at Lindsey Wilson College starting on Nov. 14.
