CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University men's and women's swimming returned to its home pool Saturday, Nov. 9 to host Union College and Lindsey Wilson College in a double-dual meet.
Though, Union and LWC swept the CU swimmers, the Tigers and Lady Tigers saw improvement in their relay times, and sophomore Bailey Foxworth qualified for the NAIA Championships with a B cut in the women's 50-yard freestyle.

CU started the day by shaving six seconds of its 200-meter medley relay time, as Filippo Albertino, Devon Cross, Travis Durocher and Nicholas Coe paired up for a third-place finish of 2:10.57.
To close the day, the women's 200-meter freestyle relay saw a seven-second drop in time at 1:59.89 to beat Lindsey Wilson in the race. Swimmers were Foxworth, Emily Hunter, Jessica Cook and Shelby Mattingly. Foxworth's 50-meter split of 29.53 qualified her for the sprint event at nationals.
The men's team dropped five seconds off its 200 freestyle relay at 1:54.22, with Clem, Cross, Jon Kttus and Albertino swimming the event.
"They did really well in their relays. We worked a lot on our transitions working up to today, and I saw a definite improvement in those," said Casey Smith, CU's swim coach. Â "We worked a lot on their overall technique for their starts, and I saw a lot of improvement in those across the board in all races."
CU entered many swimmers into events that they had not previously competed in this season. In addition to their regular events, Rebekah Tilton swam the 100-meter backstroke, Jenna Rueff swam the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter IM and Jessica Cook swam the 200-meter butterfly. For the men, Daniel Fathergill added the 400-meter freestyle, Jon Kattus added the 200-meter IM and Brad Clem added the 200-meter freestyle.
"We had someone in almost every event. It brought us a lot of versatility in our strategy overall," said Smith. "They're willingness to work as a team and swim events they're not feeling super confident in showed. That's one of my favorite things with working with this team. They are willing to do what's best for the team first before they are concerned with what they think is best for their selves. Their outlook is very team oriented, which is a hard characteristic to grow in this sport."
Campbellsville will return to action Friday, Nov. 15 at Asbury University in a double-dual against Asbury and Milligan College.
