CU returns to the pool at Sewanee Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. –After a three week break, Campbellsville University women's and men's swimming returned to competition Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, at the University of the South's 13th annual Sewanee Invitational.

The women competed in 17 events and the men fielded entries in 15 events at the two-day invitational.

 



"We didn't see many time improvements, but it was a solid meet. That seemed to be the consensus among a lot of teams," said CU swim coach Casey Smith. "We added a large amount of distance and worked hard in practice the past couple of weeks, so I am very pleased with the effort and performances across the board. It was a great meet for this time in our season, and considering all of the injuries and sickness we have been work through in the past week."

The Lady Tigers had six Top 10 individual finishers, beginning with sophomore Bailey Foxworth's seventh-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Foxworth completed the long distance swim in 19:35.37.She also finished fifth in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:8.23.

Shelby Mattingly was seventh in the 50-yard free with a time of 26.52 seconds, just .02 behind University of the Cumberlands' Felicia Williamson. She was also seventh in the 100-yard free with a time of 58.53 and in the 200-yard IM in 2:32.58. Jessica Cook was ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08.14 and Emily Hunter was 10th in the 200-yard IM in 2:35.65

Brad Clem had the only Top 10 finish for the men, placing 10th in the 100-yard fly with a time of 57.80.

CU's women placed seventh of eight teams, while the men were eight of eight.

Host school Sewanee won the women's invitational and finished second in the men's, while University of the Cumberlands won the men's invite and was second in the women's.

CU returns home Saturday, Nov. 9 to host Lindsey Wilson College and Union College in a double dual meet at Powell Athletic Center. Start time is 11 a.m.
