Menlo pins overtime loss on Lady Tigers, 61-55

HOLOLULU, Hawaii. — Menlo College used a 10-3 run late in overtime and pinned a loss today on the previously undefeated Campbellsville, 61-55, in the first game of the Hoop N Surf Classic.

"I don't think we were ready for the physicality," said Coach Ginger Colvin. "Honestly, I thought we got a little rattled."

After trailing most of the first half, baskets by Kristen Jacob and Caroline Owen sent the Lady Tigers to the lead, 25-22, that would not be relinquished until 4:10 to go in overtime. Jolise Limcaco hit a 3 for a 49-48 Lady Oaks lead and that was the ballgame.

"That was our first real challenge," continued Colvin. "Not taking anything away from any teams we've played, but that was the best so far. We had several trips where all we needed was a rebound to win the game and we couldn't collect one."

CU could not get it together on the offense end, turning it over 17 times, five more the Menlo. The Lady Tigers shot 35 percent for the game, 29 percent in the second half.

The loss cancelled a career performance from Owen. She had 20 points on 3-for-3 from 3 and 8-for-11 altogether. She had three rebounds and two steals.

"I feel bad for Caroline," said Colvin. "She just played awesome."

Grider had eight assists, the fourth time this season she has had five-plus assists. Sholtes' seven boards were a career high for her.

Trailing 58-52 in overtime, Katie Allen drained a 3, but then CU committed two consecutive turnovers and Menlo pulled away, hitting four free throws in the last 20 seconds.

Limcaco took an ill-advised 3 with 20 seconds to go, but Campbellsville could not come away with the missed shot.

The Lady Tigers stay on the road at the Hoop N Surf Classic with a 4:30 ET game against Pacific University. A link for live stats can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
