Tigers can't hold halftime lead, lose 97-90 to Lindenwood

Box Score

BELLEVILLE, Mo. — Campbellsville led by one at the half, but couldn't keep Lindenwood-Belleville off the offensive glass in the second half and ended up losing to the Lynx, 97-90, Wednesday night.

A 10-point lead evaporated for the Lynx when Darius Clement's nine late first-half points gave CU a 47-46 lead at the intermission. But the Tigers never could use that momentum to their advantage. Campbellsville, a team that prides itself in holding opponents to 60 points per game, gave up 97 to Lynx.

"We played hard tonight," said Coach Keith Atkins. "We're just going through a stretch where a lot isn't going our way. We have to get back to some basics, especially on the defensive end."

With the game tied at 60-all, things started unravelling for the Tigers (2-3, 0-2).

After Craig Anderson hit two free throws giving the Lynx a 71-66 lead, Myles Rice missed 2-of-3 free throws and then blew a dunk and Lindenwood (8-4) would not trail again.

Campbellsville closed to within 81-79 on another Clement basket with about four minutes remaining in the game, but Craig Anderson hit six free throws down the stretch, pushing the Lynx out to a 91-84 advantage. It was the 24th straight home win for Lindenwood.

"We won't be able to beat many people on our schedule by giving up 97 points," Atkins continued. "Through all of this we have to remain positive and go to work every day in practice with the mindset that we have to get better. It isn't going to happen over night, but it will happen."

Craig Anderson led the Lynx with 27, while Eric Gaines scored a game-high 31 for the Tigers.

Needing stops, Campbellsville gave up offensive rebounds (16 all told) on two trips and committed a turnover on another with three minutes remaining in the game.

Campbellsville returns home on Saturday when it hosts Life University in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
