Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – For the second straight game, Campbellsville University had a 3-point try in the final seconds fall short in an effort at an upset bid in the Mid-South Conference, losing to No. 13 Georgetown College, 83-78.

Justin Ennis attempted a 3 with eight seconds left, down three, but the shot missed off the near side of the iron and CU fouled once more with six seconds to play. Georgetown hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute, while CU was 0-of-2 from the field and 2-of-4 from the line during the same stretch.
Campbellsville out shot Georgetown in all areas except free throws, where the home Tigers struggled, hitting only 42.9 percent (9-of-21).
 The game was a back-and-forth battle all night long, swapping leads 14 times with 11 ties along the way. Neither team led by more than seven throughout the night.
Georgetown took a quick 7-2 lead to start the night, but Chris Smith scored the first 12 points for CU and gave the home team its first lead of the night, 12-11, with a 3-pointer from the top of the key. The big guy went on to finish with 17 in the first half and a season-high 25 points in the game.
Late in the first half, Ennis gave CU a 37-36 lead with a 3-pointer, and then Smith scored an old-fashioned 3-point play to close the half with Campbellsville leading 40-36.
After five lead changes and four ties early in the second half, CU took the lead at the 12:40 mark on 3 form Vernon Payne and held on to it for the next 10 minutes. Campbellsville worked its lead to as many as seven, 72-65, before Georgetown went on a 13-2 run to take a two-possession lead, 78-74, with 2:18 to play.
From that point on, all of the remaining points in the game were scored at the free throw line, with CU pulling within a point, 79-78, after two Addison Smith free throws with 28 seconds remaining.
Vic Moses and Allan Thomas led Georgetown with 19 points and 18 points, respectively, while Deondre McWhorter had 12, Monty Wilson scored 11 and Garel Craig added 10. Moses had a double-double with 11 rebounds.
For Campbellsville, Ennis, Payne and Sean Scott finished with 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Campbellsville (17-11, 10-8 MSC) will return home Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. EST to host St. Catharine College for Senior Day.
