Sixth-ranked Tigers fall to No. 5 Lindsey Wilson, 19-15

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 10-match dual was split even in the number of wins, but two extra-point losses proved vital, as No. 6 Campbellsville University fell short to fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College, 19-15, Tuesday night in Gosser Gymnasium.

Chris Teague, the defending runner-up in the NAIA at 141 pounds, wrestled at the weight for the first time this season Tuesday, falling in by major decision to third-ranked Wismit Moinius, 14-5. The bonus point win gave the Blue Raiders a 7-3 lead after junior Tyler Alsip had just evened the team score with a 6-5 decision over No. 16 Jacob McCombs.

Following Teague's loss, Kyle Terry dominated a 10-3 decision against Zach McCormick, nearly mustering up enough for a major decision to even the score. However, he fell one point shy after his riding time point made it a seven-point margin.

Trailing 7-6 as a team, top-ranked senior Conor Young defeated No. 7 Joe Cozart, 9-6, for his 99th career win and to give CU its first lead of the night, 9-7. Joe Whalen and Michael Johnson each battled close matches at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively, before falling to their higher-ranked opponent.

No. 5 Josh Ashbrook defeated Cadyn McKeeth, 7-3, at 184 pounds after McKeeth moved up from 165 to wrestle for an injured Ian Stephens, ranked second in the NAIA. His win pulled CU within a point, 13-12.

Campbellsville was left needing extra points to have a chance of holding off the Blue Raiders. Allen Scruggs, ranked third, scored an early take down and nearly worked No. 7 Jacob Bradford into a pin during the first period, but Bradford made it a match. Scruggs collected nearly three minutes of riding time early in the match, which proved to be the difference. The duo drew even, 5-5, after three periods, but Scruggs held on to a little over a minute of riding time to win the decision, 6-5, and put CU back on top, 15-13.

The Blue Raiders sealed their first dual victor over the Tigers though at heavyweight, where eighth-ranked Teddy Furnish pinned Terrell Moore in 1:13 for the win.

Prior to the dual Tuesday, Taylor County High School host No. 23 North Hardin High School in a Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) dual in Gosser Gym. The NHHS Trojans defeated the Cardinals, 57-42. (Results below).

Also being featured during the night were four youth wrestling exhibition duals between Central Kentucky Youth Wrestling and North Hardin. AJ Williams started the night for the Little Tigers with a tech fall win over North Hardin's Dakota Richards. Dalton Yates of North Hardin then beat Hayden Ingram in a near tech fall. The other two matches belong to the Little Tigers. Blaine Frasier avenged a championship loss over the weekend in the Cardinal Clash by beating Devin Herron, 2-0, and Wes Oliver recorded a pin over North Hardin's Mary Beth Richards.

Campbellsville (9-3) will return to action Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. EST against No. 11 Cumberland University in Gosser Gymnasium. During the night, CU will honor its four seniors: Jarvis Elam, Ashbrook, Young and Scruggs. The dual will be streamed live on http://iHigh.com/CampbellsvilleTigers and live scoring will be provided on TrackWrestling.com.
