Tigers drop Sunday matinee to LWC, 6-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University put together a brief two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, but was unable to erase a six run deficit, falling to Lindsey Wilson College, 6-1, Sunday afternoon.

 



The Tigers finish the season fourth in the Mid-South Conference standings and will face No. 5 seed University of Rio Grande in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday at 1 p.m. EDT at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.

Mitchell Osnowitz contributed to four of the Blue Raiders' six runs, beginning with a leadoff solo home run in the top of the third inning. He also scored in the fifth, when he reached on a walk and crossed home on a sac fly by Michael Rosario.

LWC added two runs in the sixth to go up, 4-0, after Jeff Kerian led off the inning with a single up the middle. Osnowitz was hit by a pitch and both scored on a deep double by Russ Morse. Osnowitz doubled in pinch hitter Kory Weeks in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to 5-0, and Manny Alonso drove in Derek Shugart in the ninth.

Campbellsville's lone run came in the bottom of the ninth, as Michael Bush was hit by a pitch with two outs and Jacob Phillips drew a walk before Keaton Neeb singled in Bush for his sixth RBI of the weekend.

England Smith recorded the win after allowing eight hits, but no runs, in six innings of work. He had seven strikeouts. Sean Bouthilette also pitched six innings, while recording the loss for CU. He allowed four runs, three earned, off six hits and three walks. He struck out three.

Josh Potter led all hitters with a 3-for-4 performance for CU, while Neeb and Phillips each had two hits. Four of CU's first five hits in the game were infield hits. Osnowitz and Morse each had two RBIs for LWC, while Osnowitz and Kerian were the only Blue Raiders with two hits.

Campbellsville (27-17, 11-10 MSC) will return home Tuesday, April 23 for its final game of the regular season, hosting Cedarville University at 6 p.m. EDT for Senior Day.
