Box Score MARION, Ind. – After a lengthy weather delay, both head coaches, Thom Jones and John Bratcher, agreed to abandon the game between Campbellsville and Indiana Wesleyan in a 1-1 tie.
Campbellsville opened the game very aggressively on the offensive side of the field. Shots were fired one after another, and finally Jessica Ralph's goal in the 30th minute put the Lady Tigers on top 1-0.
"Jessica was in the right place at the right time," Jones said. "That was a big boost for us".
The Lady Tigers dominated the first half of play. With 14 total shots and six shots on goal, there wasn't much more the offense could do. They put pressure on the Lady Wildcats and the IWU goalkeeper. Kelsey Powell made several good saves.
"Whenever you shoot well, good things will happen," Jones said. "We kept shooting and adding pressure to their defense. If we continue to shoot like that on a consistent basis, we will be hard to beat."
After the first half of play, Campbellsville had 14 total shots and six on goal, while Indiana Wesleyan had only four shots and two on goal. The Lady Tigers led 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.
Opening the second half, the Lady Wildcats came out and applied some pressure of their own. Shot after shot was being saved by goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman, but forward Katie Pannabecker got a ball past Hagerman and knotted the game at one goal apiece in the 62nd minute.
Campbellsville started to panic from the pressure, according to Jones. And the goal wasn't really challenged by anyone on the defense. But after some adjustments the Lady Tigers controlled the remainder of the game.
One player that has been a standout for Campbellsville this season has been sophomore mid-fielder, Kathryn Thomas. Last week in the home opener against Union College, Thomas scored her first career goal. This week she led the Lady Tigers in shots and shots on goal.
"Kathryn is doing everything we ask," says Jones. "She is not trying to do too much and lets the game come to her. She is putting herself in good positions by doing that."
The Lady Tigers play again on the road September 6th at 7 p.m. against Trevecca Nazarene.
The way Campbellsville has been playing lately, Jones, is looking forward to the playing the Lady Trojans.
"If we play like we have and keep our composure when things get tough, it we be a great match against Trevecca."
