DES MOINES, Iowa. – Campbellsville University fell short against fourth-ranked University of Great Falls in the NAIA National Duals quarterfinals but have a chance to finish as high as fifth place Sunday when action resumes at 10 a.m. ET.
CU started on the right foot with its first dual, beating No. 17 Baker University, 36-6.
Campbellsville took the lead with the first match as fourth-ranked Cody Steiner pinned his opponent. Tyler Alsip, Colby Rinehart, Matt Milton and Shawn McGhee all followed with wins by decision. Treyvontay Rhodes, Kyle Sweedman and Nate Knauf each received six more points each for the Tigers after pinning their opponents. The only losses for Campbellsville were from Travis McIntosh and Justin McDaniel, both by decision. Winning this dual set the Tigers up to wrestle Great Falls.
Campbellsville had a hard loss to the University of Great Falls, 29-6. The Tigers' first two matches of the dual were dropped by decision, Brandon Westerman put the Tigers on the scoreboard with a decision at 141 pounds. Westerman's win didn't quite get the team pumped enough, though, as the Tigers lost their next five matches, all by decision. At 197 pounds, Knauf put three more point on the board for the Tigers as he won by decision. Coach Franky James decided not to wrestle his heavyweight in this dual, issuing a forfeit at 285.

Following the tough loss, the Tigers had a three-hour break to get ready for their last dual of the day against Dickinson State. Campbellsville knew going into this dual that they needed the win to continue on to day two.Â
Steiner set the bar with a pin in the first period at 125 pounds, while 133-pounder Andrew Ferguson wrestled his first match of the season, giving the Tigers another pin in the first period. The two pins set the pace for the rest of the Tigers. Westerman won his match by decision, and Rinehart bumped up to wrestle at 149, winning his match by decision as well. Rhodes had his second pin of the day and put six more points on the board for the Tigers. Marvin Lawrence, Sweedman, and McDaniel each won their matches by decision. The Tigers once again only dropped two weights, as they advanced past Dickinson State, 34-6.
Campbellsville (17-4) will begin the second day against Indiana Tech at 10 a.m. ET. The winner will wrestle for fifth and sixth place, while the loser will wrestle for seventh and eighth place. Both place matches are scheduled for 2 p.m.
