CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Sweeping their home duals is nothing new for the fifth-ranked Campbellsville University Tigers, but Saturday's sweep of the Best Western Duals is one to remember. CU's wins over Darton State College and Life University give the Tigers 100 dual wins in its 10th year of program history.
"That's pretty amazing that we started from scratch and have averaged over 10 dual meet wins per year for 10 years," said Franky James, who started the program in 2003. "It's been 10 great years here for Tiger Wrestling."
The milestone also came in conjunction with CU women's wrestling's first-ever home duals.
Campbellsville (15-3) defeated Darton State College, 50-3, and Life University, 28-18.
CU did not drop a wrestled weight against Darton, forfeiting its heavyweight match. Matt Milton, ranked No. 16 at 149 pounds, was the only Tiger to wrestle two matches and win both, pinning Darton's Umar Ansari and taking out Life's Rowdy Prior by a 9-3 decision.
Four other Tigers recorded pins against Darton: No. 4 Shawn McGhee (157 pounds), Shelby Floyd (165 pounds), Kyle Sweedman (184 pounds) and No. 9 Nate Knauf (197 pounds). Cody Steiner, ranked fourth at 125 pounds, and second-ranked Tyler Alsip (133 pounds) both won by tech fall to start the dual against Darton – their only match of the day. The two collected forfeit wins against Life.
At 141 pounds, tenth-ranked Colby Rinehart and No. 2 Brandon Westerman had a major decision and decision, respectively, against Darton and Life.
No. 12 Treyvontay Rhodes (165 pounds) and Marvin Lawrence (174 pounds) each won their only match wrestled to round out scoring in the program's 100th win over Life.
"I'm really happy with how our guys competed coming off the break. These guys came back ready to go. Now we can get back on schedule and have a good week of practice going into national duals," said James. "We are 15-3 in duals. We are excited about getting out to national duals in Iowa. This team loves to , and we are looking forward to the challenges."
National Duals will be Jan. 12 in Des Moines, Iowa.
