WILMORE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University men's and women's swimming each finished fourth Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Asbury University Invitational.
The women's team collected 23 team points to place fourth among five teams. Ten of those points came from a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, which saw a drop in time of .54 of a second. Jessica Cook, Marien Rincon, Maria Archila and Shelby Mattingly teammed up for the two relays.
Mattingly added eight points individually, placing third in both the 50 free (26.19) and 100 free (57.91). She improved her 100 time by .69 of a second. Rincon had three point, placing sixth in both the 50 free (27.43) and 200 breaststroke (2:44.53). It was her first time to swim the breaststroke event collegiately. Rebekah Tilton also added two points, placing fifth in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 13:32.72 in her first attempt at the event this season.
Emily Hunter swam two new events for the season, finishing with a 1:12.27 in the 100 backstroke, 1:12.27 and 2:48.09 in the 200 breaststroke. Hunter also cut 5.85 off her 200 IM time, finishing in 2:32.21. Mattingly joined her in the 200 IM for the first time this season, swimming a 2:33.22.
Three Lady Tigers improved their 100-yard breaststroke times. Rincon (1:16.17) saw a .49 drop, Meika Hamblin (1:31.96) cut 1.25 seconds and Jenny Deibler (1:45.45) cut 2.60. Amber Wright (33.54) and Deibler (33.72) each cut .43 of a second off their 50 free times, while Hamblin (33.86) shaved .79 off her 50 time. Hamblin (1:14.87) also dropped .28 in the 100 free.
Two others to show improvement in the meet were Katlynn Lanham, shaved 4.51 seconds of fher 200 free time, cutting it down to 2:44.67, and Archilla, who cut .79 of a second off her 100 fly at 1:16.11.
On the men's side, Campbellsville was fourth of four teams with five team points.
The Tigers cut .09 of a second off its 200 medley relay time to finish seventh and earn two team points. Filippo Albertino, Devon Cross, Austin Tucker and Alex Meade combined for a time of 2:00.59 in the event.
Daniel Fathergill competed in the 1000 free for the first time this season, placing fifth for two points in a time of 13:09.13. Meade collected the other team point with a sixth place finish in the 500 free after dropping 1.67 to finish in 6:18.44. Fathergill also improved in the event, shaving off .37 of a second to finish at 6:22.94.
Meade also showed improvement in the 200 free, dropping .83 of a second to finish in a time of 2:14.17. Albertino dropped .59 off his 100 back time (1:09.47), and Cross dropped .02 of a second from the 100 breast (1:15.72). Tucker represented CU in the 100 fly for the first time this season with a time of 1:10.55.
Campbellsville will return to competition Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the Sewanee Invitational.
