Boniel reaches semis at UofL Tennis Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nathan Boniel was the lone Tiger to make it past the round of 32 and made it all the way to the semifinals of the University of Louisville Invitational held October 24-26.

Boniel won his first round match by a score of 6-1, 6-1 against Garrett Mandrell of Morehead State University. In the round of 32 he defeated Pat Gaffigas of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 6-7, 7-5, 7-5. He defeated Ronnie Myburgh of Northwest Ohio 7-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, but fell to Romar Hernandez of West Alabama 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in the semifinals.

Three other Tigers competed at the event as well. Sebastian Marot was the only other Tiger to advance out of the first round. He defeated Tristan Houle of Southern Illinois Edwardsville 6-3, 6-3, but lost to Caspar Schuetze of West Alabama 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the round of 32.

Alejandro Soriano lost to Alex Galoustian of DePaul University 6-1, 6-0 and Zach Baulch lost to Paul John of DePaul University 6-2, 6-2.

All four players competed in doubles action as well. Marot and Baulch won their first match 8-7, but fell 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Soriano and Boniel lost their opening round doubles match 8-4.

The team will return to action again in the spring.
