Big runs hightlight Lady Tiger win over Harris-Stowe, 94-46

McKENZIE, Tenn. — Campbellsville used a couple of 15-2 runs to put Harris-Stowe on its heels and took out the Hornets today on Day 2 of the Chamber of Commerce Shootout at Bethel (Tenn.) University, 94-46.



 

"I thought we were better today," said coach Ginger Colvin. "When you turn a team over (36 times) like we did today you're going to get some easy baskets. But we improved on the things we needed to to get better."

 

The Lady Tigers (2-0, 0-0 MSC) played a game last night that was in doubt until the last two minutes. Today the game was never in doubt after 12 minutes.

 

A couple of free throws by Daizah Kimberland extended CU's first-half lead to 29-11 and the Lady Tigers sustained that margin for a 42-22 lead at the break.

 

"I think they were a little fatigued from a second game in two days," offered Colvin. "We played really hard and I'm proud of our effort."

 

At the start of the second half, CU used buckets by Lindsey Burd, Kristen Jacob and Kimberland to push out to a 48-22 lead that would eventually bulge to a 57-24 margin with 13 minutes left to play.

 

Caroline Owen hit her fifth 3 midway through the half and Campbellsville led 76-30.

 

Owen led all CU scorers with 17. She was joined in double figures by Kimberland (11), Chelsea Craig (12) and Madison Clements (10). Burd led the team with seven rebounds and Jacob and Craig has six apiece.

 

Harris-Stowe's Shanique Buford collected a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

 

Campbellsville forced 36 Hornet turnovers and picked up 26 steals, led by four steals each by LeeAnn Grider, Craig and Abby Miller.

 

Miller played 18 minutes and had four steals, four assists and four rebounds.

 

No one played more than 20 minutes and 12 of the 13 CU players who saw action scored at least two points.

 

The Lady Tigers return home for the first a a six-game homestand when Asbury University comes to the Powell Athletic Center. Tipoff at 6:00. The game will be broadcast over university radio (WLCU 88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
