Women's XC finishes fourth at MSC championship

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Campbellsville University Women's Cross Country placed fourth in the Mid-South Conference Championship held this past Saturday.

Scottsville, Ky. junior, Maggie Calvert lead the team with a 17th place finish in the time of 20:08. Belleville, Ill. senior Sarah Johnson was close behind, placing 20th in a time of 20:22.

"Our women ran great," said coach Hilary Lakes. "We had a few season and lifetime PR's on the women's side and we finished better than last year so we are defiantly growing and making progress. I'm proud of how they went out and ran and competed on Saturday."

Mallory Vest ran with a time of 21:01, placing her 24th. She was followed by Shelby Courtney (21:09) in 26th place. Freshmen Abby Wicke (21:17) and Brandi Thomas (22:49) placed 30th and 42nd, respectively. Rounding out CU's team was Jennifer Hatley's 51st placing in a time of 24:40.

CROSS COUNTRY ACADEMIC HONOREES

Campbellsville University and Shawnee State lead the conference schools with seven women's cross country academic honorees each. CU honorees included: Maggie Calvert, Shelby Courtney, Bailey Foxworth, Jennifer Hatley, Sarah Johnson, Shelby Mattingly, and Mallory Vest.

In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved at least sophomore academic status.
