CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville women's offense came to a halt tonight in the Mid-South Conference soccer semifinals. Two-seed Cumberland University eliminated the three-seed Lady Tigers, 1-0.
Â
Campbellsville's offense was cooled off after scoring 45 goals in the previous eight games. The Lady Tigers could only muster four shots and two on goal – both in the first half and every shot came in the first 13:44 of the match.
Â
Campbellsville came out of the gates running as Mhairi Fyfe and Aris Kuntz both had shots on goal but were unable to get past the Cumberland goalkeeper Lindsay Kitson.
Â
Cumberland U's Taylor Nay gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead after sneaking a ball past the Amanda Howard. Nay fought off a CU defender and beat Howard before falling to the turf, picking up her 13th goal.
Â
Howard kept the Lady Tigers in the game after picking up a season-high nine saves in the first half. She made diving saves on breakaway attempts, twice keeping the match at 1-0. Cumberland out-shot the Lady Tigers 12-4 in the first half.
Â
Howard, a second-team All-MSC performer, finished the match with a career-high 13 saves. But the offensive charge could not maintain possession and give the Lady Tigers a chance. Cumberland University had nine second-half shots and four were on goal, all saved by Howard. But the majority of the possession was kept on the Bulldog end of the field.
Â
Campbellsville will now enter into the NCCAA Mid-East Regional against NCAA DII Lee University. The Lady Tigers will travel to Cleveland, Tenn. on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
