Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It was deja vu all over again, but this time Campbellsville men's basketball saw its own 22 point lead diminished by the visiting team, John Brown University (Ark.), in the second half. The Golden Eagles were able to take a brief lead, but the No. 2 Tigers held on late and hit timely free throws to escape Philander Smith College's Mims Gymnasium unscathed, 75-67.

Campbellsville went into halftime leading 49-30 but John Brown went on a 14-2 run to open the second period. The Golden Eagles were eventually able to take their first lead, 63-62, on three free throws by DJ Feiti.

D'Von Campbell answered for the second-straight game when his team needed a boost and knocked down a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession to put CU back up, 65-63, with 4:31 left.

John Brown knotted the game at 65 but Campbell used a sweet ally-oop pass to Damontre Harris who finished with a two-handed flush. CU took a 67-65 lead with 3:27 left and was able to make enough free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Campbell finished with 18 points to lead CU and hit four 3-pointers. Harris played a game-high 34 minutes, scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Campbellsville barely survived a double-overtime thriller last night against No. 17 Philander Smith where it saw five players play more than 31 minutes. The first half of today's matchup up with John Brown seemed to not have any hangover from yesterday's late night but fatigue started to set in and the Golden Eagles took advantage.

CU opened on a 15-3 run in the first six minutes. Elliott Young, who played a season-high 34-plus minutes Friday but only played 7:12 in the first half Saturday, knocking down three long range triples to lead the Tigers at the break with nine points.

Young was sandwiched in between 3s by Darius Clement and D'Von Campbell for three consecutive tres, giving CU a 22-point lead, 39-17, at the 5:43 mark – its biggest lead of the game.

The sophomore from Mt. Washington, Ky. did not record a shot in the second half, finishing with nine points in 13-plus minutes of play.

CU held the Golden Eagles to 31 percent (13-of-41) shooting in the first half and shot lights out, hitting 54 percent (19-of-35). The Tigers also hit 53 percent (8-of-15) of its triples in the first period.

But the second half was a much different story. CU struggled only hitting 31 percent (9-of-29) from the floor, including 2-of-9 (22 percent) from behind the arc.

John Brown used the offensive boards to get back in the game, recording 16 boards on the offensive side. The Golden Eagles outrebounded CU 42-36 and upped its field goal percentage to 36 percent (27-of-75).

Max Hopfgartner scored a game-high 22 points for the Golden Eagles and Griffin Brady recorded 12 rebounds. John Brown drops to 10-4 overall with today's loss.

Campbellsville ends the first semester 15-1 overall and 5-0 inside the Mid-South Conference. The Tigers will open the New Year on Friday, Jan. 2 to host MidAmerica Nazarene University. Game time is scheduled at 4 p.m. ET in Powell Athletic Center. The game will be broadcasted live on 88.7 The Tiger.
