CU swimming in third-place after Day 1 of MSC Invitational

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Campbellsville University men's and women's swimming both sit in third place after day one of the Mid-South Conference Invitational at Lindsey Wilson College. Competition will continue Saturday morning at 10 a.m. EST with the second day of finals beginning at 6 p.m.





On the men's side, CU had eight swimmers advance to the finals in various events. Tyler Vaughn had the Tigers' highest finish with a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM, after shaving his time by .42 of a second. Vaughn also lowered his time in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the men's 200-yard free relay, CU dropped 3.78 seconds off their time to improve to 1:37.47, that is .87 of a second shy of the NAIA qualifying time. Other CU men's swimmers to drop time in the meet were Devon Cross, who dropped 2.28 seconds to finish at 1:13.94.

For the women, the Lady Tigers claimed three second-place finishes and four third-place finishes during Friday nights' finals.

CU started the finals with a third-place time of 1:45.78 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, a drop of 1.62 of their seed time. Bailey Foxworth followed with a second-place finish in the 500 free, dropping her time by 17.3 seconds. Foxworth was also third in the 100 fly, improving by .67 of a second. Rebekah Tilton also showed improvement in the 500 free, cutting 6.36 seconds off her time to finish fourth. She also dropped 2.67 off her 20 free time.

In the 200 IM, Jenna Rueff cut nearly six seconds off her time to finish second, while she also improved by 2.55 seconds in the 100 fly to finish sixth.

Shelby Mattingly improved by .84 of a second in the 50 free to finish second, only .07 behind University of the Cumberlands' Lizzy Horn. Mattingly's big improvement came in the 200 free, where she dropped 5.87 off her previous time to finish third with an NAIA A cut time of 2:03.19. It is her third NAIA A cut this season.

Kyle Perkins also showed improvement Friday, dropping 2.97 off her 100-yard breaststroke time. Jessica Cook cut time (1.24) in the 100 fly.
