Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala. — Things were going pretty smooth for Lady Tiger Softball until today when they met up with some Warhawks in the first game of Day 2 of the Alabama Arctic Blast.
Â
Campbellsville (8-2) was one-hit by Auburn Montgomery's Cassie Daniels, losing 5-0. CU did much better with a different strain of hawk, though, rallying for a 5-3 win over the Martin Methodist RedHawks, avenging a loss suffered last Sunday in the MMC Meltdown.
Â
Auburn-Montgomery 5, Campbellsville 0
Â
For six-plus innings Victoria Decker pitched good enough to win a lot of games, but for seven frames AUM's Daniels pitched good enough to win most any game.
Â
The junior right-hander from Valley Grande, Ala. set down 18 Lady Tigers by strikeout and stranded four runners with a masterful one-hitter against an LTS team that had been flexing its offensive muscle.
Â
Erin Benton's single in the bottom of the fifth broke up Daniels' no-hit bid. Shelby Ray and Kate Black were issued free passes by Daniels and Heather Oakley reached on an error. Ray and Erin Benton were stranded on second, the closest any Lady Tiger could get to home plate.
Â
The Lady Tigers trailed 1-0 going into the top of the seventh when Decker was pulled for Martina Riney after giving up a leadoff double to Lauren Shaw. Shaw would eventually score and then Taylor Powell cleared the bases with her first hit of the season, a three-run shot to left.
Â
Decker went 6 1/3 allowing four hits, three walks and striking out one.
Â
AUM (3-0) went on to meet William Woods, a team CU will play on Saturday.
 Â
Campbellsville 5, Martin Methodist 3
Â
One-hit in the day's opener, Campbellsville found part of its hitting eye in game two and used four MMC miscues to begin its comeback in the third inning.
Â
Trailing 3-0, CU scored a run in the bottom of the third when Heather Oakley's sacrifice fly scored Brittany Rippy, who drew a leadoff walk. The Lady Tigers would tie it in the fourth.
Â
Adrean Jordan was hit by a pitch and was sacrificed home on a fly ball off the bat of Erin Benton. Kendyl Ahrens then completed the two-run inning with an sacrifice fly to right.
Â
Courtney Turpin pitched four scoreless innings in relief of starter Taylor Wroe, who got in trouble in the third when an error and three hits produced three runs for MMC. Wroe relinquished four hits, walked one and struck out two. Turpin gave up four hits, a walk and struck out three.
Â
Campbellsville went ahead in the fifth off Kristin Benton's second home run of the season. Oakley scored after Sara Paragon's groundout advanced her to third and another MMC error opened up home plate.
Â
Hits for CU: K. Benton, HR, 1B; Oakley 2B; E. Benton 1B; and Adrean Jordan 2B.
Â
RBIs: One each by K. Benton, Oakley, Jordan, E. Benton and Kendyl Ahrens.
Â
Campbellsville continues play into Day 3 with 1:00 and 4:00 games against Point University and William Woods, respectively.
