Swim teams improve times at LWC

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Several Campbellsville University swimmers saw their times drop Saturday as CU closed its regular season with a men's and women's dual at Lindsey Wilson College.

"There were a lot of good swims today. I really enjoyed competing with Lindsey Wilson College, both teams were working really hard," said Casey Smith, CU swim coach. "We saw a lot of hard work pay off, and the meet was a wonderful check point so we know what we need to do between now and conference. I'm expecting great things from both my men and women the next time we're in the pool."

CU's men's 200-yard freestyle relay improved its time to 1:41.67 as a team, but dropped its qualifying time to 1:39.81, based on 50-yard splits for the season. That's only 3.21 seconds away from a spot in the NAIA championships.

CU's women's 200 free relay dropped .21 of a second off its first-place time and beat LWC in the race by seven seconds. Jenna Rueff posted a career-best time with a 50-free split of 29.75 in CU's second 200-free relay team.

Shelby Mattingly won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races and shaved .26 of a second in the 200 free to finish second.

Bailey Foxworth saw improvement in the 200-back, 100-butterfuly and pulled within .48 of a second from qualifying for the 400 IM.

On the men's side, Daniel Fathergill bettered his time in the 200 free, while Tyler Vaughn showed improvement in the 100 backstroke and 200 IM. Devon Cross posted a season-best 1:13.08 to finish third in the 100 breaststroke, improving by more than two seconds. Jon Kattus improved his 50 free time by 1.33 seconds and also improved in the 100 free.

Lindsey Wilson won both duals in team points, beating CU's men, 181-29, and finishing ahead of the Lady Tigers, 133-81.

Campbellsville will return to action Feb. 14-15 at the Mid-South Conference Invitational, hosted at Lindsey Wilson College. CU will then travel to the NAIA Championships in Oklahoma City in early March.
