Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville used three big innings to run rule 18th ranked Union College Wednesday during the first night game of the season at HIG Field.
The Tigers put up four in the second, three in the fourth and three in the eighth to shorten the non-conference mid-week game. CU used 12 hits, including two doubles, to put together its run support.

Ryan Squires, who started at first base, led all players with three hits, while Alex Kline, Shane Woodson and Ricky McColloch each collected two hits.
Union collected only five hits in the game, including two in the top of the first inning to help load the bases. Dexter Cline pitched out of the jam but was chased out of the game in the second inning after allowing a third hit to the Bulldogs.
Chris Tuma took over on the mound for CU in the top of the second and pitched 3 2/3 innings to collect his third win of the season. He struck out six and did not allow a walk.
Jaime Valle and Alex Gutierrez were both hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the second inning, but then Shane Woodson loaded the bases, reaching safely on a wild throw on a sac bunt. Levi McCammish, running for Valle, scored on the error, and then McColloch doubled in Gutierrez and Woodson. Jacob Russell drove in CU's fourth run with a sac fly to center.
Russell started CU's second big inning with a one-out single to right in the fourth. Kline and Squires each followed with singles to load the bases before a passed ball by Bulldog catcher John Wilson scored the first of three runs in the inning. Alex Scanlan later doubled in Kline and Squires to stretch the Tigers' lead to seven.
CU was held to only one hit through the next three innings until stringing together three more runs in the eighth off three hits and an error. Woodson and McColloch singled to start the inning, and Woodson scored on a wild pitch. McCamish, who took over in left field in the top of the eighth, drew a two-out walk. Squires singled in McColloch for CU's ninth run of the game, before an error kept the inning a live to allow McCamish to score the game-ending run.
Both teams went deep into their bullpen in the game. Allen Hewey took over for CU in the sixth, followed by Alex Watson and TR Dunne. The trio did not allow a hit through three innings of work to join Cline and Tuma for the shutout win.
Nelson Price started the game for Union, but pitched only one inning before Garrick Whittle took over. Whittle was chased in the second after allowing four runs, three earned, off only one hit. Trey Alexander, Tyler Sisson, Erik Tarbell, Justin King and Vance Sullivan also saw action for the Bulldogs. Tarbell was the only Bulldog to not give up a hit or a walk in the game.
Campbellsville (18-14) will return to Mid-South Conference action Saturday, April 5 with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at the University of Pikeville. CU will play the third game of the season Sunday, April 6 at 12 p.m. EDT. The series was originally scheduled to begin Friday but is pushed back due to pending weather.
