Lady Tigers can't hold down No. 6 Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Lady Tiger soccer made history Saturday night but could not get over the hump against Highway 55 rival Lindsey Wilson College, losing 5-1.

BOX SCORE/PLAY-BY-PLAY

Campbellsville (5-5, 1-2 MSC) has now dropped 18-straight matches to the Blue Raiders since the start of the program. Lindsey Wilson (5-2, 2-1 MSC) also has outscored the Lady Tigers 165-2 in that span.

Lindsey Wilson would take a 1-0 lead in the middle of the first half on a bizarre play of events. Amanda Kander chipped a shot into the box, bouncing over the CU defense and goalkeeper Amanda Howard for the score.

But Campbellsville would not back down and responded just 19 seconds later to knot the game at one. Mhairi Fyfe slipped past the LWC defense and beat LWC goalkeeper Johanna Enriksson for her team-leading fourth goal of the year.

The goal by Fyfe was the first scored in Lady Tiger soccer history against LWC at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

"That was awesome for the team to come right back after Lindsey Wilson took the 1-0 lead," said Jones. "We didn't give up when we very well could have. The girls weren't going to let them run through us which is very good to see."

The two rivals went into halftime tied at one. Howard made big save after big save but Campbellsville could not hold down the No. 6 team in the nation in the second half.

"They are a better team and more technically sound," said Jones. "We played the best we could for 45 minutes. The game could have got out of hand but the team did not falter in the first half."

Lindsey Wilson would step up its offense in the second half and took the game under control. The Blue Raiders took a 2-1 lead off the foot of Lyana Perez just three minute into the second period and never looked back.

LWC also picked up goals by Karin Bernet, Shelby Austin and Anna Vig late in the second half to put the game out of reach for Campbellsville.

The Blue Raiders finished with 22 shots and 14 on goal. Campbellsville recorded seven shots and three were on goal. Howard finished the game with her second career double-digit save game, finishing with 10.

"We started getting really tired at the end of the game," said Jones. "And good teams will always capitalize on mistakes. Lindsey Wilson did that and the game got away from us. The score showed a different game than it actually was for about 50 minutes."

Campbellsville will take a week off before moving out of Mid-South Conference play for two-straight games. CU will travel to Jones' alama mater, Cedarville University, on Saturday, Oct. 4. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. You can find live video links for the game, HERE. The Lady Tigers return home to Finley Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 7 hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College. You can follow the action live, HERE. Game time starts at 7 p.m. ET.

"I am glad we have a week off and regroup," said Jones. "We have a few injuries that need to be nursed and I hope we can get healthy again. But it would be really nice to get a win at Cedarville on their homecoming. My entire family will be there and it will be a special game for me and the team."
