Five Tigers make quarterfinals at ITA SE Regional

GEORGETOWN, Ky.  – Campbellsville University men's and women's tennis combined for three players that advanced to the quarterfinals in singles action while the men placed two in the doubles quarterfinals, Sept. 25-28, at the ITA Southeast Regionals hosted at Georgetown College.

Anna Tumanyan advanced to the quarterfinals in women's singles by defeating two competitors from Georgetown and one from Brescia before falling to Angelica Sepulveda of Cumberland University 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Megan Charity defeated competitors from Martin Methodist, Asbury, and the number five seed overall, Gisella Garcia of Cumberland University. She was defeated in the quarterfinals by Alicia Rodriguez of Lindsey Wilson College 6-2, 6-0.

Alejandro Soriano, who was the number two overall seed in the men's bracket, advanced via two byes and a 6-1, 6-1 victory over teammate Parker Jones along with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Raul Mendez of Lindsey Wilson College.


Sebastian Marot and Zach Baulch advanced to the quarterfinals of doubles action by defeating two-man squads from Martin Methodist and Cumberland University before falling to the Dalton University team of Adam Homby and Nikolay Nikiforov, 8-6.


Marot and Johan Fuzellier also competed in singles action but did not advance past the round of 32. Nathan Boniel was the other Tiger in singles action, but was defeated by Pablo Vilches of Lindsey Wilson College in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 1-0) in his first round match. Boniel and Soriano competed in doubles as well, but were defeated in the round of 32.


Tumanyan and Charity, along with Lindy Charity and Jenna Sallee competed in the doubles competition, but all lost in the round of 32.


It was all positive thoughts for the weekend though. "We played some good tennis this weekend at the ITA," said coach Kyle Caven. We had several chances to advance to the semifinals, but just fell short. This was a good effort from our players to establish themselves this year in the elite group of conference players."


The men's team will resume action Oct. 24-25 at the University of Louisville Invitational while the women will be back in play Oct. 25 at the University of Cumberlands Invitational.
