MARIETTA, Ga. – Campbellsville wrestling split a pair of duals Sunday at Life University, beating Brewton-Parker College, 41-6, before being upset by the Running Eagles, 29-13.
CU started the first dual in the hole, down 6-0 after a forfeit at 125 pounds, but did not drop another bought against Brewton-Park. Ryu Ballard started the run with an overtime win at 133 pounds, followed by a Sam Conners tech fall to take the lead, 8-6. Kyle Terry (149 pounds), L.J. Henderson (165 pounds) and Jerron Thomas (184 pounds) each won by decision, while CU collected forfeits at 157 pounds and 174 pounds. Evan Decker and Nate Jackson closed out the dual with pins at 197 pounds and heavyweight.
Campbellsville then dropped its first Mid-South Conference dual this season, as Life won the first seven weights to clinch the upset. Following CU's forfeit at 125 due to injury, Ballard dropped a 6-3 decision at 133 and Conners fell, 8-5. Dallas Brown upset Kyle Terry at 149, making it 15-0 Life.
Shawn McGhee wrestled up at 165 pounds, leaving Alex Becker to bump up to 157 pounds. Both were pinned, giving the Running Eagles a 27-0 lead to secure victory. At 174 pounds, Marvin Lawrence, who won by forfeit against BPC, dropped a close decision, 2-1, against Khalil Abdush-Shakur.
Campbellsville closed the dual with three straight wins, beginning with an 11-2 major decision by Chuck Sharon at 184 pounds, a first round pin by Nate Knauf and a 9-4 decision by Terrell Moore at heavyweight. Life was penalized one point for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Life (10-0, 4-0 MSC) remains undefeated this season and will carry a 10-dual win streak into its final duals on Feb. 6 at Lindsey Wilson College, as it looks to claim its first Mid-South Conference championship.
CU (9-3, 1-1 MSC) will host Lindsey Wilson (10-7, 2-0 MSC) in its next MSC dual on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Gosser Gym.
