Tigers 11th, Lady Tigers 21st in NAIA Preview Meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Campbellsville men's cross country team broke many personal records in the NAIA Preview Meet in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 9. The Tigers finished 11th out of 24 teams, while the Lady Tigers finished 21st out of 23.

"Everyone performed really well Friday," said coach Hilary Lakes. "We had a few athletes really step it up for the team and had a lot of season and lifetime PRs. We had a few guys break their all-time top 10 time or break into the all-time top 10 list.

"With as warm as it was, we really went out and performed. We still have a few things we need to work on and fine tune during the month before conference. But, I'm proud of how they performed."

Brett Pierce led the Tigers to a 11th place finish after finishing in 20th place, out of 201 runners, with a time of 25:47.7. Adam Sandidage and Brett Crawford both finishing in the 26th minute placed 34th and 46th, respectively, with times of 26:13.7 and 26:26.5.

Rounding out the team points were, Joey Hartlage placing 81th at 27:01.9, Dylan Ford, 87nd at 27:32.8, Zach Napier at 138th in 28:42.1 and Corbin Harris at 39th in 28:44.1.

Individual runners for the Tigers were Wade Harris (142nd, 28:59.7) Will Ballard (157th, 29:36.9), Ross Allen (160th, 29:42.1), Brandon Wiseheart (178th, 31:07.3), and Luke Camp (190th, 32:38.3).

Lewis-Clark took the men's team title with 72 points while Sam Atkin from Lewis-Clark took first finishing in 24:11.4.  They had four men finish in the top 25.

Maggie Calvert had another season best, finishing 63rd with a time of 19:60.0, leading the Lady Tigers to 21st place. Mallory Vest shaved 49 seconds off last week's finish to place 105th in 21:02.3. Julianna Bradley finished in 21:42.8, placing in 123rd.

Finishing within the 22nd minute and finishing out the scoring for the Lady Tigers were junior, Brandi Thomas (128th,22:07.3); freshman, Elise Shainfeld (134th,22:25.9); and sophomore, Abby Wicke (135th, 22:27.0).

Aquinas College took the women's team title with 67 points, while Sarah Biehl from Shawnee State took first individually in 18:07.5

The men's and women's cross country teams will take a small break before heading to the Chick-Fil-A Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Wilmore, Ky. and hosted by Asabury University. The meet will begin at 11:45 a.m. ET.
