Men's tennis caps off fall at Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — This weekend Tiger tennis traveled to the University of Louisville to take on several NCAA DI schools at the three-day UofL Invitational. The Tigers held their own during the last competition of the fall season, sending doubles pair Vladyslav Ladygin and Alejandro Soriano and individual Ladygin to their respective quarterfinals.

On Friday, Ladygin and Soriano represented Campbellsville in the singles A Division. Soriano took a first-round loss to Indiana University's Raheel Manji, and lost a tight consolation match with Will True of Morehead State, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4. Ladygin defeated opponents from Butler and Middle Tennessee State to advance to the quarterfinals, where he was knocked off by Louisville's own Brandon Lancaster, 6-3, 6-2.

In B Division singles action, Zach Baulch dropped a close first-round match with Nick Mercer of Morehead State, then could not hold up against Lipscomb's Daniel Cardenas in the consolation match. Eduardo Mendoza had a similar story, taking losses to Michael Apple of Middle Tennessee and Chad Woodham of Austin Peay in the first round and consolation match, respectively.

Johann Fuzellier was the lone Tiger in the C Division, and after a second-round defeat by Northwestern Ohio's Jean-Marc Krone, Fuzellier rallied to win the consolation bracket. Fuzellier beat out Murray State's Anyan Kashyab 6-1, 6-2 and then Butler's Temilope Adelakun 6-4, 1-6, and 10-3 to top the Division C consolation pool.

On Saturday, doubles play began, once again divided into three divisions. The pair of Soriano/Ladygin made it the furthest for CU, advancing to the quarterfinal round after picking up a first-round victory. Soriano/Ladygin's parade was ended as UofL's Brandon Lancaster and Christian Morin-Kougoucheff knocked them off, 8-5. Baulch/Fuzellier and Mendoza/Noah Swencki dropped their respective first-round doubles matches to pairs from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Northwestern Ohio.

The tournament also included a Red Division, where top players matched up in head-to-head matchups.
