WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Sixth-ranked Campbellsville wrestling orchestrated a major comeback tonight at University of the Cumberlands, winning 20-15 after losing four of the first five duals.Â
The Tigers struggled in the heavyweights weights at the start of the dual, beginning the night in a 6-0 hole.
No. 13 Christian Clary (125) was the first Tiger to score points, winning by major decision, 13-3. University of the Cumberlands would claim the next two weights to put the Patriots ahead 12-4.
Slowly but surely the Tigers would start clawing their way back. Andrew Hoskins (149) won by decision, fifth-ranked Kyle Terry pinned Michael Krzyston in 4:26 to put CU in the lead, 13-12. Then No. 6 Sean Black (165) and No. 8 Justin Brown (174) were the last two Tigers to win by major decisions.
With those scores, Campbellsville won the Mid-South Conference dual giving the Tigers a 20-12 lead over unranked Cumberlands. UC ended the dual by adding three points in the 184-pound class.
Campbellsville, who improved its duals record to 10-3, will stay on the road as they travel Highway 55 to Lindsey Wilson for a NAIA Top 10 showdown on Thursday, Jan. 28.
