GREENSVILLE, S.C. — The National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association and National Christian College Athletic Association has announced its All-America teams for 2016 and Campbellsville University has five players mentioned.
Gonzalo Sapena,
Daniel Nimmo and
Nathan Heath led the Tigers on the First-Team, while
Alex Higdon earned Second-Team honors and
Yudai Yamauchi was named to the Third-Team.
Sapena played in 20 games for the Tigers and allowed only 10 goals, while finishing with 11 shutouts. Sapena ranked third in the NAIA with a goals against average of 0.50, while also carding 63 saves on the year.
Nimmo, a sophomore from Litnlithgow, Scotland, was a key defender for the Tigers defense this year. CU's backline ranks No. 2 in shutouts with 15 and No. 1 with shutouts per game (0.71).
Heath, a sophomore from Bolton, England, finished second on the team with nine goals and four assists. Highlighting his season, Health registered two goals against University of Pikeville.
Higdon, a senior from Elizabethtown, Ky., carded just one goal on the year but was a main cog in the middle of the field for CU the previous four years.
Yamauchi, a freshman from Okinawa, Japan, scored seven goals in his first season for CU. He had a remarkable year by netting three goals against rival Georgetown College and three assists against Life University for season-highs.
Campbellsville finished the season with a 16-2-3 record and moved up to No. 6 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll for two-consecutive weeks – the highest in program history.
