Campbellsville (12-4, 3-1 MSC) showed very little weakness against St. Catharine (7-5, 0-2 MSC), as they were honoring the graduating class.
"Our guys competed well and they really enjoyed the home crowd tonight," said coach Franky James. "It was great to see our seniors wrestle well and help the team get the win. We had a good team effort tonight and it was a great way to end the regular-season."
The four seniors wrestled their last as a Tiger on the campus of Campbellsville all coming out victorious. The seniors won their individual weight class — Davion Caston (133), Kyle Terry (157), Miguel Santis (184) and Nate Knauf (197).
No. 13 Christian Clary came out strong and swift, pinning John Hernandez in 2:13. Reigning national champion and second-ranked Davion Caston (133) followed suit as he won by major decision 15-4, pushing the score to 10-0 early.
After Jaedin Sklapsky (141) was defeated, CU went on a 26-0 run with six Tigers scoring points. Terry - who ranks No. 5 at 157 - recorded an emotional pin in 2:27, while No. 6 Sean Black (165) and No. 8 Justin Brown (174) won by 6-3 decisions.
Miguel Santis (184) pushed the score to 30-3 with a major decision and Nate Knauf - who is ranked No. 10 at 197 - put the final dagger into the coffin for St. Catharine with a pin in 2:24.
"It is great to come away with a win tonight with the lineup we put together," said James. " We had our four seniors but the rest of the line is very young. We had three freshmen, two sophomores and a junior filling the other six positions. That will set us up great for not only the MSC Championship and national tournament but also for the future our of program."
The Tigers have 14 days to prepare for the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Marietta, Ga. hosted by Life University. That will also double as the East Region National Qualifier, which will seed teams for the national championship scheduled for March 4-5 in Topeka, Kan.
