Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Tiger tennis saw its record fall to 2-4 after a weekend of stiff competition against NAIA Top 25 opponents.
No. 15 Campbellsville was not able to hold up against No. 10 William Carey in Saturday's match. The Crusaders took all but one singles and two of three doubles matches to win the day, 7-2.
Alejandro Soriano collected the sole Tiger win Saturday, defeating Francesco Oliva 6-2, 6-3 in the second singles match. He followed by combining with Vladyslav Ladygin to take William Carey's top doubles team down, 8-5.
The competition did not get easier for CU, as they faced No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett in their final match of the weekend. The Grizzlies swept the Tigers 9-0. No. 11 doubles pairing Ladygin/Soriano managed three points versus the country's top doubles team, Jordan Cox and Kevin Konfederak, in an 8-3 loss.
Ladygin and Konfederak also faced off in a Top-10 singles matchup, No. 1 Konfederak knocking off sixth-ranked Ladygin in two sets of 6-1 and 6-3.
Georgia Gwinnett moved to a perfect 11-0 season with the victory.
The Lady Tigers were able rest Saturday before meeting the No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett's women's squad on Sunday. The Grizzlies, now with a 7-1 record, blanked Campbellsville, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Coach's Poll, 9-0.
Top-ranked Valeria Podda collected a win from CU's Majella Nobile, 6-0, 6-2 in the top singles spot. Grace-Laura Rowe and Sophie Feller battled for a singles victory until Feller took the tiebreak (6-4, 3-6, 10-5).
Podda/Feller gave up three to Rowe/Bolor Enkhbayar in the first doubles match but finished on top, 8-3.
The Lady Tigers fall to 2-3 overall on the young spring season.
Both teams will head to Atlanta, Ga. for their fourth-straight day of competition, this time against Reinhardt University. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
