Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In the first Mid-South Conference matchup of the season, Campbellsville men's and women's tennis split with Cumberland University.
The No. 16 Tigers pulled out a close victory over the No. 22 Phoenix, 5-4.
Only one doubles pairing captured a win for Campbellsville. Adrian Sabrojo and Viktor Ahlbeck, playing the No. 2 doubles match, finished with a 8-6 win over Jakov Tshirkin and Anatoliy Kashul.
Noah Swencki and Eduardo Mendoza were just shy of a victory in a 9-8 (7-3) loss to Cumberland University's third duo.
The wins came for Campbellsville in the top three singles matchups. The reigning MSC Player of the Week, Vladyslav Ladygin, started the singles compeition off with a 4-6, 7-5, 5-7 win. He was followed by Alejandro Soriano (6-1, 2-6, 4-6) and Sabrojo (2-6, 7-6, 5-7), as each went to triple sets in their respective wins. Mendoza also pulled out a close win in the sixth singles spot, beating Jose Ortega 7-5, 7-5.
The Lady Tigers, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, dropped the fell to the 14th-ranked Phoenix, 7-2.
Cumberland swept all three doubles matches. Elizabeth Boik and Sarah Coffman combined to force Trinidad Aguirre and Jasmine Shankar to extra games, but lost the match 9-8. The second-ranked doubles team in the nation, Angelica Sepulveda and Tarsha de Souza, blanked Campbellsville's top doubles duo of Bolor Enkhbayar and Grace-Laura Rowe.
Majella Nobile was able to snag a win away from the Phoenix in a tight tiebreak 4-6, 6-1 (10-7). Campbellsville also picked up another point with a default win in the six spot. Enkhbayar managed several set wins against No. 14 Sepulveda, but finished the match with a 6-2, 6-3 loss.
The Tigers move to a 6-4 season record, while the Lady Tigers sit at 2-6.
CU tennis will host Union College on Thursday, March 24. First serves of the men's and women's matches are set for 2 p.m. ET.Â
