Tigers fall in MSC semifinals against No. 7 Lindsey Wilson

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Tigers had the advantage midway through doubles play but No. 7 Lindsey Wilson College came storming back and ended up sweeping No. 18 Campbellsville, 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference semifinal match.

Lindsey Wilson will now play the winner of of University of the Cumberlands and University of Pikeville for the MSC Tournament Championship on Monday, April 25 at 11 a.m. ET.

The Tigers (10-8) held advantages in two of the three doubles matches before regular season champion Lindsey Wilson (15-3) flexed its muscles. Vladyslav Ladygin and Zach Baulch took a 2-0 lead in No. 1 doubles and ended up leading 3-1 before a few costly mistakes did Campbellsville in.

The No. 1 doubles duo had three double faults and the sixth-ranked pair of Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez came storming back to take a 6-5 lead. With Porcic and Mendez leading 7-5, the Tigers broke serve to cut the lead back to one, 7-6, but that was as close as Campbellsville would get, falling 8-6.

In No. 3 doubles, Alex Spalding and Alejandro Soriano took an early lead 3-0 over Tomas Depiaggio and Javier Raya but the CU duo went cold. Lindsey Wilson's pair went on a 7-2 run to take a 7-5 lead attempting to break serve for the match. Depiaggio and Raya were able to break serve and took No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

In the No. 2 doubles, Campbellsville's Adrian Sobrojo and Victor Ahlbeck were no match for LWS'c Ignacio Huertas and Alonso Tellez. LWC went ahead 7-0 before Campbellsville picked up two set victories but the Tigers fell 8-2 and the Blue Raiders took a 3-0 lead in the match.

In singles, it only took two wins for Lindsey Wilson to end the match. Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and No. 24 Denis Porcic took down Campbellsville's top-ranked individual, No. 17 Ladygin, 6-1, 6-2.

Javier Raya finished the Tigers with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Eduardo Mendoza

Campbellsville will now compete in the NCCAA Mid-East regional which will be hosted at the Kelly Hall Tennis Courts in Campbellsville on Thursday, April 28.
