Tigers win NCCAA Mid-East Regional Championship

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tiger tennis determined their spot in the NCCAA National Championships with a 5-0 sweep of Mississippi College today.

The Tigers (12-8) swept doubles and collected the win in just five total matches over the Choctaws in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Championship, held at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.

The pair of Alejandro Soriano and Alex Spalding was the first to finish in No. 3 doubles against Joso Gonzales and William Clausen. CU handed them an 8-2 loss to start the day.

Adrian Sabrojo and Victor Ahlbeck combined to defeat Sanders Barrick and Max Nigles, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Vladyslav Ladygin and Zach Baulch completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory over Marcos Rocca/Petav DanJanovic.

After the break, all six Tigers started in on their singles matches, but only two finished before Campbellsville won.

Soriano knocked off Nigles in the No. 2 contest, winning 6-1, 6-1. Ahlbeck, in the No. 4 spot, defeated Gonzales with an identical 6-1, 6-1 score.

Ladygin, Soriano, Eduardo Mendoza and Johan Fuzellier were tied or winning their respective matches when the match was called.

The Tigers will now look to defend their NCCAA Championship in Mobile, Ala., on May 10-13.
