Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Men's and women's tennis split with Georgetown College Tuesday in a Tigers vs. Tigers conference matchup. The men's squad subdued GC, 8-1, while the women lost, 2-7, to a team who is perfect in the Mid-South Conference this season.
The No. 17 CU Tigers were fresh after winning by their Sunday match against St. Catharine College by forfeit. They jumped out to an early lead over Georgetown's (4-13, 1-4 MSC) Tigers by sweeping doubles. Vladyslav Ladygin, partnered once again with Zach Baulch, tamed GC's Tristan Nosek and Ryo Takeda, 8-1, in the No. 1 match.
Adrian Sabrojo/Victor Ahlbeck (8-5) and Alejandro Soriano/Eduardo Mendoza (8-2) also controlled their matches.
In No. 3 singles, Sabrojo made easy work of Georgetown's Ryan Simms, defeating him in identical sets of 6-1, 6-1. Mendoza saw action against AJ Berk, beating him 6-4 in the first set and blanking him in the second.
The only CU Tiger loss came from a nail-biter in the No. 5 spot, as Johan Fuzellier battled Austin Colliver. Colliver took the first set, 6-4, before Fuzellier came back with a big 6-1 win. The men went to tiebreak and Colliver came out on top, 10-7.
Campbellsville moves to 9-5 on the season, and 4-1 in MSC play.
The (RV) Lady Tigers struggled against the (RV) Georgetown Tigers (14-4, 5-0 MSC), yet unbeaten in the Mid-South. Campbellsville used Bolor Enkhbayar, Grace-Laura Rowe, and Majella Nobile as scoring factors, collecting victories in No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Rowe and Enkhbayar paired in hard-fought No. 1 match, ending in a 9-8 CU success.
Enkhbayar went to seven games in the second set of top-spot singles play, but got knocked off in sets of 6-1 and 7-5.
Jade Lethbey also played a long second set in an attempt to take down GC's Emily Novak, but Novak's efforts were stronger (6-2, 7-5). Nobile scored CU's only other point as she defeated Amanda Moore in the No. 2 matchup, 6-0. 6-4.
The Lady Tigers drop to a season record of 3-9, and in MSC competition they stand at 1-4.
Campbellsville tennis will continue its season as the women's team heads to Shawnee State University on Friday, April 8, for a conference matchup starting at 4 p.m. ET. Both teams will take the courts again on Saturday, April 9, in another MSC match against University of Pikeville.
