Tigers will defend NCCAA title after winning 5-3 in semifinals

MOBILE, Ala. – Tiger tennis defeated Oklahoma Baptist today in the NCCAA National Championship semifinal match today for a chance to win their second-straight title.

No. 22 Campbellsville (15-9) took down the Bison (18-9) in the first of two semifinal matches today, 5-2, and will now defend its NCCAA title and seek to win its third overall.

Campbellsville led 2-1 at the break after winning Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Vladyslav Ladygin paired with Zach Baulch to defeat Daniel Aguilera and Lucas Castelo Branco, 8-3. Alejandro Soriano and Alex Spalding knocked off Babji Atturu and Michael Vetter with an identical score.

In singles play, Soriano dominated Luis Romero in the first set and came out on top of a close second set, 6-0, 7-5. His No. 2 victory as well as Viktor Ahlbeck's (6-2, 6-3) in No. 4 helped the Tigers to a 4-2 lead.

The match was sealed as Spalding came out on top of Atturu in the No. 6 match, 6-4, 6-2.

Ben Ward dropped his match to Castelo Branco, and the other two matches were left unfinished as Campbellsville had already claimed victory.

Warner University defeated Mississippi College, 5-3, in the other semifinal match to move into the finals tomorrow with CU. The two foes met on Tuesday in the pool play rounds with Warner defeating the Tigers, 5-3.

The Tigers will defend their NCCAA title tomorrow in the championship match against Warner. First serve is set for 9 a.m. ET.
