CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — In their first tournament of the season, Tiger and Lady Tiger tennis had a good showing at the Campbellsville Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Highlighting the men's side, one doubles teams went 2-0 -
Brendan Aguilar and
Chrys Castro paired together to win their first match of the season, 8-1, over Joshua Abraham and Ty Abraham from Asbury University. In the second round, Aguilar and Castro picked up an 8-4 win over Garrett Fensler and Johnathan James from Indiana University Southeast.
In addition,
Victor Ahlbeck and
Johan Fuzellier won one-of-two doubles matches. Winning 8-4 over Fensler and James, then the duo faced the Abraham brothers falling 9-7.
Moving to singles for the Tigers, Aguilar, Castro, Ahlbeck,
Alberto Perez,
Alex Spalding and
Mehdi Bichiri all won their first round matches before the rain shortened the invitational. Aguilar defeated Joshua Abraham (6-3, 6-1), while Castro defeated James (6-2, 6-4) and Ahlbeck also made quick work in two sets over Julien Tellez from Asbury (6-2, 6-1).
Perez and Spalding defeated a pair of Asbury Eagles. Perez took down Deuce Gibson (6-4, 7-5), while Spalding won over Aquille Trotman (6-2, 7-5). Lastly, Bichiri defeated Indiana University Southeast's Chris Braun in two sets (6-1, 6-2).
On the women's side, Kaede Amano and
Bolor Enkhbayar went 2-0 doubles and singles matches, respectively. In doubles, the No. 1 duo defeated Dana Frank and Alexis Applegate from IUS (8-3). Amana and Enkhbayar would have eventually played each other in the top singles flight but faced other opponents to win.
In addition,
Kyleigh Murray,
Toni Pfeiffer and
Brooklyn Harris won their first round singles matches before the rain hit, while
Majella Nobile won the second flight singles. Nobile knocked off Anne Mattox from IUS (6-0, 6-0) in the first round then defeated Alejandra Diaz Mares from Asbury (6-0, 6-1).
Both squads will have a week off before traveling to Centre College next weekend, Sept. 17-18.
