FT. WAYNE, Ind. – Tiger Wrestling scratched past No. 7 Southern Oregon University, 19-12, to advance for a chance at fifth place at the NWCA National Duals.
Adrian Camposano (125) and
Aaron Rugnao (133) started the Tigers off on the right foot against the Raiders with a 7-0 dual lead. Camposano defeated No. 7 Casey Coulter by decision, 6-0, and Rugnao won over Kale Evenson by major decision, 10-1.
Jayce Carr (141) and
Kolten Radaz (149) broke the winning streak for Campbellsville both falling by decision. Carr lost to Justin Acuff, 7-3, and Radaz fell to No. 2 Tyler Cowger, 4-2, allowing the Raiders to close CU's lead to one, 7-6.
Freshman Donnie Beyer (157) upset former All-American and No. 3 Hunter Hodges by decision, 9-6.
L.J. Henderson (165) collected three more points for Campbellsville with a win by decision over No. 11 Chandler Michael, 3-2.
The Tigers allowed Southern Oregon six more points with losses by
Justin Brown (174) and
Tyler Rowland (197). Brown was upset by Andrew Orr by decision, 4-2, and Rowland gave up his match to No. 7 Tanner Fischer by decision, 8-6.
Third-ranked
Chuck Sharon (184) held the Raiders off with his win over Oscar Flores by decision, 9-2. Knowing the win was at stake with the dual score at 16-12,
Terrell Moore (285) sealed the deal for the Tigers with a decision over Alejandro Sandoval, 4-1, to win the dual, 19-12.
Campbellsville, which now has a 3-1 NWCA Duals record, will return to the mat at 2 p.m. on Friday to take on Mid-South Conference foe Cumberland University to battle for fifth place.
