CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – To finish out its 2017 fall campaign, Campbellsville's men's tennis team hosted its Campbellsville Invitational at Miller Park on Saturday.
Wilmar Guleij,
Alex Spalding,
Alberto Perez and
Mehdi Bichiri all won their singles matches, while a trio of Tigers' doubles team went 1-1 at the event.
Guleij was took his match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 over Bradley Cross of Indiana University Southeast and Spalding was pushed to three sets to beat Asbury University's Julian Tellez (6-4, 2-6, 10-7).
Wrapping up the singles victories was Perez – who rallied from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 – and Bichiri. Perez edged Cumberland University's Ricardo Ferraris in a three-set thriller and Bichiri swept Daulton Fensler of Indiana Southeast, 6-4, 6-1.
Blayze O'keefe dropped his singles match in three sets to Asbury's Josh Turnquest and
Pablo Alonso Munoz fell to Ramon Puertolas, 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles action,
Adrian Sabrojo and
Blayze O'keefe won their opening match, 8-3, before falling to Turnquest and Choopat Suimolstean, 8-1, in final match of flight one.
Spalding and Alonso Munoz lost their opening match in flight two to Ferraris and Puertolas, 8-5, and slipped into the back draw. Bichiri and
Jordi Serrano also fell into the back draw with an 8-3 loss to Axel Lucich and Omar Santiagonunez of Cumberland, 8-5.
During the back draw, Spalding and Alonso Munoz picked up an 8-4 win over Dane Baldwin and Samir Shammas of Indiana Southeast and Bichiri and Serrano won 8-4 against Indiana Southeast's Brock Winchell and Sam Venter.
In an extra doubles match
Fernando Turiel – who competed just once on the day – partnered with Perez to earn an 8-2 victory over Garrett Fenseler and Zach Kelly from Indiana Southeast.
Campbellsville's fall season has come to an end and it will return in 2018 for its spring season.
