Men’s Swimming posts third-place finish at Sewanee’s Igloo Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Campbellsville's men's swimming team finished third out of seven teams at Sewanee: The University of the South's Igloo Invitational with 510 points over the two-day meet.
 
The Tigers were just behind Asbury University who finished second with 691 points and host Sewanee – who won the meet – with 843 points.
 
Campbellsville started the event in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of RJ Harris, Matthew Monday, Josh Provost and Tucker Hardin placed second with a time of 1:31.36 to also hit the national A standard. The Tigers also had its B team hit the national A cut after notching a time of 1:35.21 in the finals. Brandon Bagwell, Seth Jones, Austin Tucker and Justin Spalding made up the second Campbellsville relay team.
 
Jones and Monday finished second and third, respectively, in the finals of the 200-yard individual medley, where Jones touched the wall in 2:04.18, followed by Monday's 2:09.83.
 
Hardin led the Tigers in the 500-yard freestyle after posting a time of 5:15.77, which was third in the field of 15 swimmers. Alex Meade also competed in the event and placed 11th.
 
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Jones continued his strong meet and won the A finals with a time of 1:00.22, which was less than a second over the national A cut, but he was able to hit the bonus standard. Bagwell placed fifth in the race and Spalding rounded out the A final in eighth place.
 
Monday picked up a runner-up finish in the 200-yard backstroke after touching the wall in 2:06.96. Harris was the lone competitor for the Tigers to compete in the 100-yard freestyle after placing eighth with a time of 50.54.
 
Provost started his individual competitions with a third-place finish in the finals of 200-yard butterfly, where Tucker placed sixth overall. Provost hit a bonus cut time of 2:04.58, while Tucker finished in 2:30.30.
 
Back in relay competition, Monday, Jones, Provost and Harris compiled a time of 3:46.36 in the 400-yard medley relay, which hit the national A standard.
 
Hardin and Meade finished third and fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle after Hardin finished in 18:56.58, while Meade posted a time of 20:05.55.
 
The Campbellsville relay teams continued to record national A cuts following the Tigers' team of Harris, Monday, Provost and Hardin finishing the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:39.76, which was third in the field.
 
In the 200-yard medley relay, Monday, Provost, Jones and Harris finished in 1:40.70 to post another national A standard.
 
Meade was the lone Tiger in the 400-yard individual medley after finishing the race in 5:13.49 to finish fourth overall.
 
Provost and Harris were the only two Campbellsville competitors to qualify for the A finals in the 50-yard freestyle and the Tiger duo finished in 22.81 and 23.06, respectively, to round out the eight-person final. Spalding finished fourth in the B final, followed by Bagwell in sixth. Tucker was the fastest swimmer in the C final with a 25.64.
 
Monday recorded his second individual second-place finish after completing the race in 55.10 in the A final of the 100-yard backstroke. The freshman's time was inside the national bonus cut – along with his preliminary time of 55.08.
 
Harris and Hardin represented Campbellsville in the A finals of 200-yard freestyle, where the pair finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place.
 
The Tigers made up 3/8's of the field in the A final of the 200-yard breaststroke. Jones led the Campbellsville trio in second place with bonus standard time of 2:13.23. Spalding placed fifth and Bagwell finished sixth overall.
 
During the A final of the 100-yard butterfly, Provost finished fifth with a mark of 54.93. Provost swam a quicker time in the preliminary heats and hit the national bonus cut with a 54.37. Tucker appeared in the B finals of the event and notched a time of 1:04.38.
 
Campbellsville capped off the meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Tigers ended the invitational on high note with another national cut in a relay event with Hardin, Bagwell, Jones and Spalding finishing in 3:34.41
 
The 2017 portion of Campbellsville's season warps up in two weeks with a dual meet on the road against University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
