Men’s Basketball welcomes Central Pennsylvania, Brescia and Cumberlands for CU Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's men's basketball team is set to host the Campbellsville University Classic on Friday and Saturday where Central Pennsylvania College, Brescia University and University of the Cumberlands are set to compete.
 
The classic begins on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET with Cumberlands facing off against Brescia, followed by the Tigers taking on the Knights at 6 p.m. ET. Saturday's slate features Cumberlands battling Central Pennsylvania at 1 p.m. ET and the weekend concludes with Campbellsville competing against the Bearcats. All four games will take place inside the Powell Athletic Center.
 
Campbellsville comes into its classic with a record of 5-1 and got back on the winning track with a 90-80 victory over Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday night. Shawn Johnson paced the Tigers with a near double-double tallying 19 points and nine rebounds. Adam Stanford notched a career-high 18 points for Campbellsville in the victory.
 
On the season, Hagen Tyler has led the Tigers with 15.5 points per game. The junior is just 12 points away from becoming the 31st player in school history it reach 1,000 points in a Campbellsville uniform. Tyler has averaged 13.9 points per game in his 71 games played with the Tigers.
 
Four different players are averaging double figures this season with Johnson and Andrew Smith recording 12.5 and 12.3 points per game, respectively. Tim Coleman has averaged 12 points a contest during his first season with Campbellsville and he leads the team with 26 assists. Johnson is the leading rebounder for the Tigers through the first six games as he has averaged 7.7 rebounds per game.
 
Central Pennsylvania comes into the week with a record of 5-2 overall. The Knights started the season at 3-0, but have alternated losses and wins over the last four games. Both losses for Central Pennsylvania have come on the road against NCAA Division I programs, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (93-62) and Winthrop University (106-65). Last time out, the Knights picked up a 77-76 win over Pennsylvania State University-Mont Alto.
 
Brescia is 1-4 on the season, but after starting the season at 0-4 overall, the Bearcats earned its first win of the season over Wilberforce University on Thursday night, 84-79. Brescia ranks fourth in NAIA Division II with 20.6 assists per game and Tavon Johnson is seventh overall with a three-point field goal percentage of 61.9 percent. Johnson leads the Bearcats this season with 21.3 points per game, while Dillon Geralds and Kayode Daboiku have chipped in with 18.5 and 17.3 points per game, respectively.
 
Last season, Campbellsville defeated Central Pennsylvania to start the season at home, 81-72. Jalen Coates finished with a game-high 22 points for the Tigers.
 
The last time Campbellsville and Brescia faced off was during the 2012-13 season when the two teams played a home-and-home series. Campbellsville won both games over the Bearcats that season en route to finishing 20-12 overall.
 
Opening tip on Friday between Campbellsville and Central Pennsylvania is set for 6 p.m. ET, while the Tigers face Brescia at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
