BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville men's swimming team suffered a 178-72 loss to host Union College and a 164-77 loss to Lindsey Wilson College in a tri-dual on Saturday night.
The Tigers now slip to 1-4 on the season in head-to-head competition.
Campbellsville got the meet started with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of
Matthew Monday,
Seth Jones,
Josh Provost and
RJ Harris finished with a time of 1:43.48. The four recorded an A standard time during the race.
Tucker Hardin and
Alex Meade finished fourth and sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle recording times of 19:19.02 and 20:19.44. Harris was the lone Tiger in the field for the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:54.23 to place third.
Monday finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke after completing the race in 57.37 – just missing out the national bonus cut. In the 100-yard breaststroke Jones and
Brandon Bagwell each finished in the top five with times of 1:05.15 and 1:06.43.
Justin Spalding rounded out the Campbellsville swimmers in the field with a time of 1:09.08.
In the first butterfly discipline of the meet, Provost placed third (2:09.99) and
Austin Tucker rounded out the field in seventh, finishing in 2:39.30.
The Tigers had three sprinters finish the 50-yard freestyle, where Harris led the trio with a mark of 23:58. Spalding (25.08) and Bagwell (25.51) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth, respectively.
Harris recorded his fourth top five of the event at placing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. The sophomore was nearly two seconds off the B standard with a 51.55. Provost finished seventh with a time of 53.22, edging his teammate Hardin who was just behind in 53.43.
Monday notched his second top-three finish in backstroke events as he finished the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.12 to place third.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Jones placed third overall with a mark of 2:24.00. Bagwell and Spalding finished just half a second apart to round out the field in 2:35.11 and 2:35.61. Hardin was the lone individual for Campbellsville to compete in the 500-yard freestyle and he finished fourth with a time of 5:30.53.
During the 100-yard butterfly, Provost completed his day finishing fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a 57.88. Tucker completed the field in seventh after posting a time of 1:06.86.
To round out the individual events, Monday posted a 4:56.01 to finish fourth in the individual medley, while Meade posted a 5:26.27 in the event.
The Tigers wrapped up competition on Saturday in the 200-yard freestyle relay where Bagwell, Tucker, Spalding and Hardin completed the event in 1:38.39, which was just over the national cut line.
Campbellsville is back in action on Nov. 17 for day one of the Sewanee: The University of the South Invitational in Sewanee, Tennessee.
