CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 19th-ranked Campbellsville men's soccer team continues its postseason run with a top-25 contest against No. 22 Cumberland University is the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET from Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, Ky.
In the quarterfinals, the second-seeded Tigers took down seven-seeded University of Pikeville, 3-0, while the Phoenix – who are the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament – beat sixth-seeded Georgetown College, 3-0.
Campbellsville enters the week with a record of 13-2-1 overall with its lone tie of the season coming against Cumberland. The Tigers have five different players with at least 10 points this season led by
Ignacio Mangada with 29 and
Nathan Heath with 20. Mangada has a team best 13 goals and Heath has chipped in with nine.
Rickard Hallin leads the team with five assists and he has one goal on just one shot this season.
Yudai Yamauchi and
Mark Callaghan have chipped in with four assists each for their 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Andreas Nota has started in all of Campbellsville's 16 matches and record five of the team's 10 shutouts on the season – which is fifth in the NAIA. During his first collegiate season, Nota has recorded 51 saves and has a goals against average of .91.
Cumberland enters the conference semifinals with an overall record of 13-2-2 and are unbeaten its last six games. Brian McNamara has paced the Phoenix offense with 16 goals and 37 points, to goal along with 15 goals in 15 games and 37 points from Daniel Williams. A total of three Cumberland individuals have at least 20 points this season with Bakary Bagayogo knocking on the door with 19.
The Phoenix rank second in the NAIA with 11 cleans sheets this season and Bennet Strutz leads the way with eight shutouts. Strutz has started all 17 games for Cumberland recording 42 saves and ranks 19th in the nation with a goals against average of .79.
Earlier this season, Campbellsville and Cumberland played to a 1-1 draw at Finley Stadium. The Phoenix struck first in the 38th minute, but went down a man after a pair of red cards were handed out in the 39th and 40th minutes. Yamauchi then notched the game-tying goal in the 56th minute and the game ended at 1-1 after neither could break the draw.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET from Warren Central High School in Bowling Green.
The first semifinal between No. 1-seeded Lindsey Wilson College and No. 5-seeded Life University is set for 10:30 a.m. ET. The winner of the two semifinal matches faceoff for the tournament championship on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET.
