Tiger and Lady Tiger basketball hosts Life University on Senior Day, Saturday, Feb. 25

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Two ball games with totally different meanings are on tap for Saturday afternoon, as Campbellsville hoops invites Life University to the Powell Athletic Center.

The Lady Tigers start the action with senior day activities at 2 p.m. ET. The Tigers are scheduled to tip at 4 p.m. with senior day for them and the Campbellsville cheerleaders on tap for 10 minutes before tipoff.

Fans can follow the doubleheader starting at 1:45 p.m. ET with Jay Turner and Matt Payton on the Campbellsville University Sports Network. Links for radio, video, stats and TV can be found above.

With the three-seed set in place for Campbellsville's fate in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, the Lady Tigers are playing for a little pride on Saturday as Life University travels to Tiger Town. LeeAnn Grider and Abby Miller - the lone four-year seniors on the team - are trying to become the winningest senior class in program history and will tie last season's seniors - Kristen Jacob and Lindsey Burd - with a win. In addition, the greatest Lady Tiger to ever wear the maroon and grey, Whitney Ballinger, returns to the Powell Athletic Center and is being inducted into the athletics Hall of Fame.

Ronnie Spry is also being inducted into the Hall of Fame, which take place at halftime of the men's game. See story on Ballinger and Spry, HERE!

It's also Senior Day and Hall of Fame day for Tiger basketball but Saturday means much more to head coach Brent Vernon and his squad. Campbellsville is looking to extends its win streak to a season-high four games and continue the momentum it has created the last two weeks. But it will have to go through regular season champion, Life University. The Tigers gave the Running Eagles the out-right title by defeating No. 6 Georgetown College on Saturday, 77-76.

In addition, the four Tiger seniors are playing their final game in The Powell and former coach Keith Adkins, who played a role in recruiting all four CU seniors, returns home for the first time since he resigned last May and was hired at Life University. Saturday means much more for Campbellsville in the MSC standings as well. If the chips fell right, the Tigers could move as high as sixth in the final standings and enter as a sixth-seed into the tournament.

Women's Preview:

The Lady Tigers and Life have met just once, as this is the first season the Running Eagles have sponsored a women's basketball program. Campbellsville pulled out an 88-49 win in Marietta on Jan. 18 in the series lid-lifter.

CU is recognizing its five seniors – Grider, Miller Emily Fox, Alexis Pester and Queralt Coll Pradas are all being honored before the tipoff.

Pester and Pradas have played a combined 36 games this season. Pradas averages 8.7 minutes per game while Pester plays at 5.5 minutes per clip.

Fox has proved she is one of the best shooters to ever come through the program. After transferring from Austin Peay, Fox surpassed 1000 career points and has hit a 231 career 3s. Last season, Fox hit 110 and has another 79 so far this year.

Grider went down with a knee injury for the second-straight year but etched her name in the record books as well. She finished her career with 571 assists to sit in third place. She also ranks seventh in CU history in steals with 250.

Miller, who is a gritty, tough, hard-nosed player, has been one of the best on the defensive end of the floor. She has started every game this season and has been the leader for CU in taking charges and with her play in the Twilight Zone.

A lot is on the line for the Mid-South Conference standings and seeding as well. With an 89-73 win for Shawnee State over Lindsey Wilson on Thursday, the Bears and Blue Raiders share the MSC regular season crown. But with the victory, SSU becomes No.1-seed for upcoming MSC Tournament and LWC's perfect season ended. Lindsey Wilson will be the two-seed, Campbellsville is the three seed and UPIKE is four seed. But from 5-7, it's up in the air. Cumberland, University of the Cumberlands and Georgetown all sit in a tie for fifth place with a 4-9 record. Cumberland hosts Shawnee State, Cumberlands hosts UPIKE and Georgetown is on the road at Lindsey Wilson. If Shawnee State and Lindsey Wilson both win, and Cumberlands upsets UPIKE, the Patriots are the five-seed. If UPIKE defeats Cumberlands, the tie-breaker goes down to point differential and then a coin flip.

Men's Preview:

The Tigers and Running Eagles are meeting for the 11th time in program history with Campbellsville owning a 7-3 edge. While the series has been played at home, CU has won four of the five games.

CU is also looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Running Eagles, 94-80, in their first matchup of the season.

Their senior season wasn't one for the books, but Campbellsville's 2017 graduating class has turned it on as of late to end the season and could change their fate in the next two weeks.

Seniors Elliott Young, Erik Kinney, Rod Lawrence and Zach Perry are being recognized before tipoff of Saturday. The four have led the Tigers by tying a season-high three-game win streak and are looking upset the MSC regular season champion Life University.

Elliott Young has been the lone four-year Tiger and surpassed 1,000 career points this season. In his career, Young has hit 43% from the floor and 38% (183-of-486) from 3-point land.

Erik Kinney, who redshirted last season, enters Saturday with 299 points and 256 rebounds. He has recorded 11 double-doubles this season and leads the Mid-South Conference by averaging 10.2 rebounds per game. Kinney recorded a career-high 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in 5OTs vs. Cumberlands.

Rod Lawrence, who played one game last season before injury his foot, has shown signs of brilliance this year after dropping 29 points in an exhibition vs. WKU. He enters with a career-high 25 points over Shawnee State.

Zach Perry has scored in double figures six times this season and has scored 10 and 11 points, respectively, in the last two games for CU. He is hitting 47.5% from 3-point land and has added a much needed lift for the Tigers throughout the season.

With Campbellsville's win over Georgetown, the Life Running Eagles claimed their first MSC regular season crown and will be the one seed. Georgetown currently sits in second play with a 9-4 record and travels to Lindsey Wilson on Saturday, Feb. 25.

University of Pikeville and University of the Cumberlands are tied with 8-5 MSC records and are currently tied for third place. The two battle for third place - and could be tied with Georgetown for second - with a win on Saturday and a GC loss.

Lindsey Wilson is in solo fifth with a 6-7 record and hosts Georgetown on Saturday.

Cumberland University is currently sixth in the standings and hosts Shawnee State on Saturday. The Phoenix boast a 5-9 conference record.

Campbellsville is locked into the seventh or sixth seed with a 4-9 record entering Saturday.
With a Tiger win over Life and a Phoenix loss, Campbellsville and Cumberland University would be tied for sixth place and it would come down to tiebreakers.

Outside of Life University as the No. 1 seed for the upcoming tournament, Shawnee State has
sealed the eight seed and both will play in the opening round of the MSC Tournament.
