Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. — Eighth-ranked Campbellsville University men's tennis won its first Mid-South Conference match of the season with a 7-2 victory over No. 22 Cumberland University on Wednesday afternoon.
With the victory, the Tigers improve their record to 7-2 overall and 1-0 inside the MSC.
Campbellsville got a quick start with the second-ranked doubles of Brenden Aguilar and
Chrys Castro defeating Axel Lucich and Thiago Lopez, 8-2.
At No. 2 doubles,
Alejandro Reyes and
Adrian Sabrojo also won in dominating fashion, 8-3, over Ramon Puertolas and Alejandro Rosas Garcia.
Cumberland stole a doubled point at No. 3. Victor Alhbeck and Mario Belloni lost 8-3 to Riccardo Ferraris and Jose Oretega Vela.
In singles, it was Campbellsville dominating in five of the six matches – but two of them going to tiebreaks.
No. 6 Aguilar and Reyes won at Nos. 1-2 doubles, respectively, but Sabrojo and Ahlbeck had to battle through tiebreaks at Nos. 3-4 to claim victories. Sabrojo won 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, and Ahlbeck had to come from behind, winning 5-7, 6-0, 10-5.
At No. 5 singles, Belloni picked up a win after Jose Ortega Vela retired for Campbellsville's final point.
The lone Cumberland point in singles went to Puertolas, as he defeated No. 49 Castro, 6-1, 7-5.
Campbellsville is now scheduled to host No. 4 Lindsey Wilson College for a tough match on Saturday, March 25. First serve goes up at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
