Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Eighth-ranked men's tennis dropped its first Mid-South Conference match of the season on Saturday to No. 4 Lindsey Wilson College, 6-3.
The Tigers (7-3, 1-1 MSC) were able to snag two singles matches and one in doubles but the Blue Raiders (9-5, 1-0 MSC) recorded three of their six points with straight-set victories.
In doubles, the Blue Raiders led 2-0 early after
Alejandro Reyes and
Adrian Sabrojo lost to Tomas DePiaggio and Denis Porcic, 8-2. At No. 3 doubles, Mario Belloni and
Zach Baulch also lost 8-2 to Alonso Tellez and Ivan Solans Diaz.
The second-ranked doubles team in the NAIA was able to score a point, after
Brendan Aguilar and
Chrys Castro teamed up to win 8-4 over Filip Persson and Javier Raya.
In singles, it was Lindsey Wilson taking command early. Reyes lost 6-1, 6-1, to Solans Diaz and Sabrojo lost 6-2, 6-2 to give the Blue Raiders a 4-1 match lead and only needing one more point to secure the victory.
At No. 1 singles, it was No. 3 Denis Porcic and No. 6
Brendan Aguilar battling it out but Porcic got the best of Aguilar this time with a come-from-behind three-set win, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, securing the victory for LWC.
The Tigers were able to grab a few more points but it was too late. Victor Alhbeck won in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 10-5 over Filip Persson and No. 49
Chrys Castro won 7-6, 6-4 over Cobi Ho.
Campbellsville will now host three more Mid-South Conference matches next week, starting with University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday, March 29. CU also hosts University of Pikeville on Thursday, March 30 before ending the week with a Sunday matchup against Shawnee State on April 2.
