Gameday Central: Battle of Tigers hits the hardwood Friday night at 6 p.m.

FRANKFORT, Ky. — It's win or go home for the Tigers, as Campbellsville needs to claim its third Mid-South Conference Tournament title to keep its season alive. The road starts today, Friday, March 3, as the Tigers play two-seed Georgetown College at 6 p.m. ET.
 
Campbellsville enters as the seventh-seed with a 15-14 record and finished 4-10 overall in the MSC standings. Georgetown College finished the regular season with a 22-6 overall slate but lost five of its last six conference games to fall to 9-5 in the MSC.

The two programs split in the regular season – both earning wins on away courts. Campbellsville upset Georgetown on Feb. 18, 77-76, giving Life University the out-right MSC title.

The MSC Tournament gets underway on Friday afternoon with regular season champion Life University playing eight-seed Shawnee State at 2 p.m. Four-seed University of the Cumberlands plays five-seed Lindsey Wilson at 4 p.m. and three-seed University of Pikeville meets six-seed Cumberland University in the night cap at 8:00.
 
Entrance into the arena is $12 for adults and $7 for students with valid college IDs. Also, credit card machines are down at the Frankfort Convention Center and they are only accepting cash this week.
 
Tigers in the MSC Tournament
• In the Mid-South Conference Tournament, Campbellsville carries an overall record of 15-14.
• In the first round games for the Tigers, CU is 10-8 overall.
• The Tigers have a losing record in the semifinal, 3-7.
• But in their three trips to the finals, the Tigers are 2-1.
• Campbellsville won the MSC Tournament title twice in 2006 and 2015.
• Behind the eight games played against Georgetown College, Campbellsville has played University of the Cumberlands six times in the MSC Tournament.
• Georgetown won the MSC Tournament last season and is looking to repeat for the fourth time in program history (1999 and 2000, 20008 and 200x9, 2010 and 2011). Lindsey Wilson College is the other school winning consecutive titles in 2004 and 2004.
 
Series Facts vs. Georgetown
• CU and Georgetown are meeting in the MSC Tournament opening round on Friday night at 6pm. It will mark the 133rd game in history, with GC leading the series 102-30.
• The CU Tigers and GC Tigers have met a total of eight times in the MSC tournament. Georgetown leads the series, 5-2.
• The very first season series between the two rivals came in the 1960-61 season with Georgetown winning both games.
• In the series, Campbellsville is averaging 76.3 points while Georgetown scores 80.6.
• Since 2000-2001, Campbellsville averages 71.9 points while Georgetown is scoring 74.2 points.
• Campbellsville won its first MSC Tournament title on March 4, 2006 - a 75-62 over Georgetown.
• Campbellsville knocked off Georgetown two years ago in the Mid-South Conference semifinals,78-72, en route to winning its second MSC title in 2015.

Campbellsville is coming into the MSC Tournament as the seventh-seed.
• Coach Brent Vernon is coaching in his first MSC Tournament as a head coach. He, Darius Clement, assistant coach for CU, Elliott Young and Zach Perry, are the only remaining team members from the 2015 championship squad.
Mark Vernon, former assistant at Cumberlands, was defeated by CU in the 2015 title game.
• Coming into the tournament with a 15-14 record, Campbellsville has to win the tournament to advance to the NAIA Championship in Kansas City.
• Last season, Campbellsville came into the MSC Tournament receiving votes in the NAIA Poll, were defeated in the semifinal by Georgetown, and were one of the last teams selected in the NAIA Tournament field. The Tigers went on to their second Fab Four appearance in Kansas City.
Erik Kinney was named a MSC First-Team while Hagen Tyler was named to the Second Team.
Elliott Young was named the MSC Champions of Character. The last Tiger to win that was Darius Clement in 2015 - the same year CU won its last MSC Tournament.
• After starting the season with a road record of 0-7, Campbellsville won its final three away games - all on senior nights for the opponent as well.
• CU also had not won a Thursday night game until defeating Shawnee State two weeks ago.
• In the 5OT game vs. Cumberlands was the longest game in CU and UC history.
• The 26 made free throws vs. UC ties a season-high, as the Tigers made 26 twice in the
season.
Erik Kinney earned his 11th double-double against Wilberforce last Monday. But two Saturday's ago vs. Georgetown Kinney scored 20 points and recorded his second 17-rebound game. He is averaging a double-double - 12 ppg and 10.2 rpg. He is the first Tiger to average a double-double since Damontre Harris did in 2014-15.
• Kinney has upped his game recently, ranking No. 3 in the NAIA with 10.2 rebounds per game and No. 8 with 3.3 offensive rebounds per game.
• Against Cumberlands, Kinney recorded a career-high 24 points and 21 rebounds - the most re- bounds in a game since Steve Bugg grabbed 21 vs. then-Cumberland College on Jan. 15, 1983.
Elliott Young became the 30th Tiger to reach 1,000 points in his career with 23 points vs. Cumber- lands. Entering the MSC Tournament, he currently has 1,068 points.
